tl;dr have ssd and hdd. both plugged in, get disk read error on start. Unplug the hdd, get select proper boot device. OS is installed on ssd.

obviously, there is a problem with the hdd. I would like to fix it or recover data but that is difficult to do if computer won't start with it plugged in, even though the os is installed on another drive. So, what would you suggest? I would like to be able to use the computer without having to reinstall windows on the ssd, and possibly fix the hdd afterwards. I could also try starting with the hdd plugged in, but this doesn't seem to be feasible.

Thanks for the help. Please give suggestion for either solution you think would be best.
