Solved Displays shut off during gaming.

Normally I wouldn't reply but...

Again what I said much earlier:sarc: but however sounds ok now Havoc so good luck!!

I don't know what your problem is but if you're seeking glory, you can have it.

As for me, I'm still going to put my input in with regards to helping the OP.

Peace
Well I see that you have a very low opinion of me and if you consider for one single moment I am in this for self gratification then you are very sadly mistaken.

Normally I wouldn't reply to such a post but...

I've no earthly idea how you came up with that or where you got such an idea from as anyone reading the posts here would clearly see that I've not attacked you, insulted you, or said anything bad to or about you.

All I'm trying to do is help the OP with an issue, and I'll continue to do so where warranted. If you want to help too, fine, I welcome it. BUT.... I'm NOT going to get in a pissing contest with you! It's doing the OP no good.

If you feel I've insulted you, report it to the admin and move on.

Later.

With card #1 installed by itself the idle temp was 39C, after running around in Skyrim, temp was 85C.
With card #2 installed by itself the idle temp was 33C, after running around in Skyrim, temp was 74C.

Big difference I think. Would that mean the card is bad? Is there some software that can check the performance of the card while showing the temps on screen? I'd like to check each card seperately with a dedicated peice of software.

Checked Furmark. Card #2 got a score of P6181, temp 72C, avg. FPS of 21

You could go to this site and checkout a program called Furmark, beware it will stress your card - FurMark: VGA Stress Test, Graphics Card and GPU Stability Test, Burn-in Test, OpenGL Benchmark and GPU Temperature | oZone3D.Net

As for the temp differences between the two cards, that could be a huge difference, but I'm thinking the 85 degree mark was right, while the 74 mark was below average. Bear in mind that you just replaced the thermo paste on both cards so that may play a factor.

Anyway if you really have questions as to the proper idle and load temp of those cards you should check the NVidia forums, or NVidia's site as I've no idea what they should be. I know my 6950 gets up to around 85ish no problem; idles around 65ish. That's a guess as I've not checked it in a while since I'm no longer benchmarking.

In the meantime check with NVidia or the forums for the temps.

I'll check the nVidia forums/site for what the temps should be. The #1 card has always been hotter than #2 (but just by a couple degrees), I bought them the same day.
I'll run the tests on each card and post the results.

Well then you should be good; just run the cards and go from there.

Good luck.

I took the cards out of the case and swapped their position. Now the one that was running cooler is #1. I also did some cable management inside the case, removed the fan controller (fans now connect to MB), removed the DVD/RW drive and removed the cables that go to the front of the case (I never use the headphone/mic or USB ports). Now I should have better airflow.

Played some Skyrim yesterday, about 3 or 4 hours. The temp in Precision X never went above 84C. I also did not experience any crashes to the desktop. The displays also did not lose signal. I did have a severe FPS drop when I came out of Riftens sewers (somebody was attacking me). The card temp was lower at that point so I think it must have been a game issue.

Checked "enable software automatic fan control" under fan curve. Now when playing Skyrim, the temperature doesn't get past 69C :D.
