I said that in reference to the side issues which were causing me much dismay. It wasn't so bad in june. I kill myself! I got it! I happened to be looking at the computer in computer where it shows you the usage bars of each hard drive. E: previously was almost 3/4 full. Now it was about a 1/4 full with pretty much the same files as before. Went into properties and found the compress files option checked. So I unchecked the option and it asked if I wanted to uncompress and I said yes. Much to my dismay. It is now about 1/4 fininshed uncompressing and got a long way to go. I canceled out and attempted to delete a compressed file, because I still have the originals on the C: drive, no luck. Now I don't know if I trust tons of compressed jpeg files and iso's. Gonna wait for it to decompress, delete them and now that the drive properties are uncompressed I should be good to go.
I have an important question. After I copied prior to figuring out, I rebooted. Now there is a compressed System Volume Information file. What do I have to do, delete it or leave it in its uncompressed state. Eagerly, with butterflies in my stomach awaiting one of you fine Gentlemen's answer!!!
Why would it do that, compress my files and the recycle.bin. It didn't ask me or advise me that is was planning on doing that. I know I didn't miss any boxes to tick or untick.

I've never seen that happen without user input. The only thing I could mention (as a wild guess) is that your mouse might have "Snap To" (see attachment) enabled and a click snuck in on you accidentally. We've all done it.

Since the new drive does not contain your system (Windows) or any data you care about you can easily fix this from Disk Management within Windows. I'd delete the volume (make sure you pick the right one!), then create a new one and format it again.

Take it S-L-O-W and double-check everything as you go along.

Since you still have all of the original files on the C drive (correct?) I'd delete the partition and recreate it in Disk Management as Prof suggests, then copy the files over again.

You might have damaged some of the files by interrupting the unzipping.

Make sure the Properties box for the new partition has the compress box unticked.

System Volume Information will be recreated along with the new partition. Afterwards, hide your Hidden and Protected System files in Control Panel>Folder Options>View.

I wonder if you might not realize it when you are ticking boxes or choosing risky options. Yesterday when you were trying to Extend a partition in Disk Management, you instead chose to convert it to a Dynamic Disk. :shock: Best to limit your actions to only exactly what you want to do at the moment, nothing else. If you have any questions, ask here.

At some point in time, have you used a program called Allway Sync: Free File Synchronization, Backup, Data Replication, PC Sync Software, Freeware, File Sync, Data Synchronization Software
It may still reside in your backup if that's where you are seeing it.

It looked just like that "double checked" this time. Using format in DM it ran and I just now rebooted. The drive came up saying local drive. When I clicked on it, the ubiquitous device popped up a "Disk must be formatted' so I said yes again that I want to. Will be back in about an hour or so....

Hello my name is glennc and I'm a wuss! After the successful format and install, I endeavored to install 2 backup programs. Well I don't know what I was thinking but these programs were very automated and vigorous. Before I knew it my E: drive said it was only 696 GB instead of 1 TB. Worrying that I inadvertently caused a failure somehow, began investigating. I was going to do a thorough AV check and Malware and then use the product to backup. Well with my casual permission it had created a large hidden partition for itself on my drive and that is why it was reporting itself as smaller than it was. I can only claim tiredness. It also began to backup my drives without asking and I could not get it to stop. So I had to wait for it to finish. Then in a panic, I uninstalled the programs as they were not seen by Revo and hoped that they would play nice and let my partition return to the fold. No luck. So I set it formatting the drive for the third time that day and went to bed. Farck. This morning the spatial emissions were with me and it formatted perfectly. I am now AVing it. Then a backup of a great machine "Black Beauty".
Immense quantities of thanks and respect for those who had my back.

Well my luck is holding.... After 3 unsuccessful backup attempts with system image and one without and a 0x80070002 error, I did manage to make a seemingly successful system image. It will not backup with or without system image.
Looking online the error seems to have something to do with an unfinished download. Did Windows update and after checking for new updates, I download a windows defender definitions. I thought I had it turned off, but it was just not running resident.
I remember MS Baseline Security saying I had an unfinished download and after several attempts of rebooting and checking updates, I thought it was a glitch.
So I am presently unable to use Windows 7 Backup.
Does anyone have any idea?

Did you take all of that unnecessary security crap off of there, turn on the Windows firewall and install Microsoft Security Essentials?

From what you described earlier you had it strapped down so tightly I'm surprised anything runs.

Your best backup method is to drag your active User files to the storage drive, as backup programs that do the work for you will waste a lot of space.

You may be right. But it has never failed me previously. I understand your point though and will take it under serious consideration. For now though I would like to get the backup program working or find out why its not. Macrium had no problem. So as usual I out of my depth. Thanks for your insightful advice.

I'm using the windows firewall, and MSE.

Last patch Tuesday win update told me I had an update for MSE along with a few others.
All went well except for the MSE definitions update. It failed installation, but gave no numerical code. When I ran the update though the MSE program it passed.

Moral?
From now on I only update MSE through itself, any mention of updates or patches from win update are refused (unchecked).

I use macrium, profdlp's Cobian is another good one, but you may want to have a look at this first:

You may also want to go over these Backup Restore tutorials to make sure your system is reacting properly to what you want it to do, and your seeing what your supposed to be seeing:
