I suggest NOT using a Windows flash utility.

I suggest you copy the file G750JMAS.207 to a USB stick formattedFAT32 and plug that into a USB 2.0 port in the laptop. Turn it on and go into BIOS and use the EASY FLASH utility in BIOS, just like post #15

Actually TV I was surprised to see that I could not get that BIOS files again for some reason and clicking on the BIOS Utilities in support it brought that up and I just thought I t might be the thing to use to get the BIOS update installed. Notebooks & Ultrabooks - ASUS ROG G750JM - ASUS

To be honest it just seems like one thing after another with this machine and the Asus support contact site and the ROG forum are as useful as an ashtray on a motorcycle.

Well mate I ma as confused as you because all I get is that file which will not open without some program to do it.

Mind you I have a problem with my security at the moment causng other issues and Kaspersky have assured me it will be fixed by next week as I ma not the only one having problems. I might even uninstall it pre tem and do what I have to do.

Are you sure about that? Because that file (G750JMAS.207) is all you need. You don't open it with another program as if you were in Windows, you just point Easy Flash to it and away it goes.

Or is it that you can't extract it from the Zip folder?

I really don't have a clue right now mate as my security I have just found out from Kaspersky support has quite a few bugs in it ie I cannot use PayPal without KISS wrecking my pay method and some fixes they sent like resetting the ?host controllers and deleting some temp files have now got me to this stage of play.

I have just uninstalled and reinstalled KISS to see if it makes any difference in case the last install was corrupted but it is rather wearing on one's nerves.

I shall return with what I can do.

Well downloaded it again and extracted it to a small stick and get this when I try to open it because I have no idea if it is a .cap file or if it will work with the flashing and I don't want to leave anything to chance.

I'm confused about why you are trying to open the file in Windows? The file can only be opened by EzFlash in the BIOS. It is completely fruitless trying to open it in Windows.

The steps go something like this:
1. Download the most recent BIOS iteration from the ASUS website. Store this to a USB device.
2. Boot to BIOS. Navigate to "Tool," then "EZ Flash."
3. Select the USB device. Select the file. Press 'enter.'
4. Check the BIOS version again to ensure the update was applied.

No Colin I wasn't trying to open it for the heck of it just that the first time I made a stick it came up as just the BIOS update and I left that at my place and when I downloaded this time it came as a zip I thought the utility they quoted would do that. I shall try the stick when I get back to my place and find the stick which I originally made.
All in all this machine has been a very trying experience (since October) and with hindsight I would have bought something similar elsewhere

Why the heck Asus did not make it with the access to 7 drivers as well as the 8 drivers I shall never fathom out the wifi came with an update for 7 & 8 driver but that is all. Am so disappointed with Asus as I thought they were smarter than that. To have to go to all this trouble with the BIOS is to me at least a nonsense.

Yep mate tomorrow morning while I am at my place as I have better net access and I can download using the desktop for that BIOS stick.

I just hope if it goes smoothly the machine will recognize the GTX 860M GPU - the Intel graphics are not bad but it will be interesting to see if they get any better. I must say the full HD on this laptop is quite exquisite as it is.

Wait a minute. Are you flashing the BIOS trying to get the system to use the GTX860M?
(BTW - I'm all for running on the latest BIOS anyway)

In many systems, by design, the laptop will run on the CPU integrated graphics by default until there is a need for higher end graphics, then the system is supposed to switch over to the dedicated chip. That is how it is supposed to work. They do this to save power and extend battery life.

There have been complaints that the switching does not occur fast enough or at all. There have been many threads here (Gaming and Video forums) where OPs are looking for ways to get their laptop to run only on the dedicated graphics.
Sometimes that can be accomplished through video driver control panel settings, sometimes (rarely) in the BIOS settings, and sometimes only by installing a modded BIOS (usually was necessary with the earlier versions of the switching drivers).

You might check your specs and documentation to see if there is any mention of Optimus for that laptop.

The newer versions of Optimus allow you to choose which graphics to use on a per-program basis. You right click on the programs's (the game or application) .exe file and then choose the graphics to use.

Well yes TV that is one reason and the main reasons are for the 7 drivers which have to have that update to access them.
Am still unsure if I have the right download though because I download the stuff from Asus and get what you see in the pic which is not a CAP file and why I looked at the winzip stuff to open it and find that CAP file.

I didn't have any problems like this with the Ivy Bridge it just seems the laptop is jinxed to stay as is.

Asus laptops do not always use .CAP files.

The file format for your BIOS upgrade will be:
Motherboard model# . Version
or Laptop model # . Version

Your file is G750JMAS.207
G750JMAS is your model #
.207 is the BIOS version.

It is the correct file to use for Easy Flash.

Ok mate did not do it until I heard back from you as I wasn't sure because it looked different to the flash I did with the Asus Ivy Bridge.

Still just as well as I caught up with my brother in England this morning - that was a pleasant surprise as he has just got himself into computers a bit more and I keep telling him to use his forum account but I think he feels he isn't quite good enough. Still he will one day I guess.

So my next move is tomorrow with a bit of luck I'll find my passport (it's put away in a safe place - child proof) and then do the BIOS

Well done the flash and it is not worked it erased the current one - 205 and downloaded the 207 and I am getting a message to say that an error occurred and have this code 0x000000d and the BIOS is the only thing that starts up. I have tried putting in the installation disk to repair but it doesn't see the optical drive except once and then it just would not start.

Switching on and going to try and flash it again it is telling me the flash is too old so basically I now have a nice doorstop unless I can reflash it with the 205

Do you hard disks and optical drive appear in the BIOS? What version does the BIOS report?

Try this John (assuming the BIOS version is now 207):
Go into BIOS, load the BIOS Defaults, save and exit.

If you can get into the BIOS the flash must have been successful.
It sounds like your drive configurations have changed.

Hello Colin no mate the optical is not being "seen" and I get those messages at every attempt to start the machine I just get the BIOS screen.
I will try to post the snips in the next post as this machine is now playing up.
