do you use USB Safely Remove for usb hard disk ?

do you use USB Safely Remove for usb hard disk ?


i did notice that it doesn't power off my drives

i tried this great software _http://safelyremove.com/

it can really safely remove my usb drive , it can power off my drive what w7 can do it

is there a w7 tweak to power off my drives?

Yes mate in the systems tray click on that little arrow next where I have my Kaspersky it open and you will see a USB sign with a green tick click on it and it will show what you have hooked up just go to Eject safely it will then tell you when it is safe to remove the device whatever it is.

yes i know but it doesn't power off a device

I think there is a time delay until it powers off the device. Check that.

I don't quite understand can I assume this may be one of those adaptor powered devices?? Some of the larger ones require more power than the USB can provide. If it is then off course it will not power it off it will only disconnect the data lines.

No, Windows Safely Remove Hardware does not power off the device. It simply finalizes all disk writing tasks to avoid file system errors.

For a program to power down the external disk it would have to cut power to the USB port. And since 2 or more ports can be on the same USB controller this could be problematic (it would power off a printer also). So by design Safely Remove will not power off USB ports.

If I want to use my usb drives for copying files and as soon they are finished take them out ( sneaker net ) I always use the Safely Remove icon, If the drive has been doing nothing for a hour or so I dont bother I just take it out so far I have never had a problem and have been doing it for years
