Solved Does anyone actually LIKE Windows 7?

Dabber if you can't find out where something in the library points to you have several options, When in a library details view where it says size name type, Right click that bar and select folder type, That will show you the folder the files are in, Other options right click file open folder location, if you want to keep the window open hold shift right click open folder location. In windows 7 shift key is your friend as it will give you a non truncated list of options upon right clicking different things, I personally Move everything off of my C drive and on to my D drive as far as files and user folders go, I also add my D storage drive to the index locations in windows 7. I personally take a diferent route in to my user folders bypassing the library. If you add default icons to your desktop then you can simple click the User folder there and then click on videos or whatever there and you wont be in libraries, You can also make a shortcut to the user folders bypassing the library anywhere you want even on the start menu. Just pin them.

I didn't pay all that money for a new computer (including Wndows 7) to leave it unused. I'd love to know how I do various jobs.

You made a thread to post opinions and thoughts but your upset that Opinions come off borrish like .........I was simply saying I am proud of my Father even though he is a olderman that decided to get into computers about 4 years ago and stating he doesn't have issues getting around Win 7

Just thought I'd pop back to answer this comment. Whether the remarks were directed at me or not - all the others who dared to say they liked XP were under fire, too, I suppose - I was objecting to the idea that it was an age thing not to like Windows 7 and that I couldn't understand it because I didn't want to learn how to use it.
Did your father accept your views in the way you said them?
Most of the rest of the comments were sensible and I see there are some good ones that have just gone on (between my two latest posts).

I am thinking of starting a new thread (to avoid clogging up this one) asking people, particulartly Windows 7 lovers, what they use Windows 7 for. Serious work or just messing around with photos, distortions and the like?

This is how I see it: in order of greatness
Windows Me, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 7 (Me the worst and 7 the best)
I haven't used anything before Me with the exception of the Apple II in high school.
Me was a pain. Never used Vista because I had XP and didn't feel like "upgrading". I read how alot of people didnt like it (Vista). The same goes with 7, I've read and watched videos on why people don't like 8. I'm sticking with 7.

I'm glad that I never have to have the latest when it comes to computer software and hardware. Let some other fool figure out why their computer doesn't work correctly.

Most Windows 95-98 were the same ME-2000 I think was broken in some areas

XP great experience Vista broken Win 7 ,Win 7 the better version of Vista

All these version have almost the same thing in common with the exception of better updates service packs and utilization If anyone has used these versions of Windows before 7 should have some sort of an idea on how it operates

Im not throwing any cheap shots at anyone just saying ,jumped into 7 with both feet and havn't been stomped it all looks the same to me and that is what the point is here

Now when it comes to Windows 8 I can see someone being challenged and baffled unless you are a casual app user because this windows went through a major overhaul

I was merely correcting the impression that your comment might have given some people. That is that you thought not liking Windows 7 was an age thing and that people didn't wish to learn how to use it. Neither is true in my case.
You are entitled to an opinion. Everyone is. It's a free world; you can say what you like (as long as it isn't libellous). Of course others said the same as you, in the same way that many people agreed with me about not liking to use Windows 7. Oh, did you miss those?
But unless you indicate that what you are saying is "just a statement", or tongue in cheeek or whatever - such as by adding a "wink" Emoticon : - how can people be sure you aren't aiming your comment at someone in particular?
I'm not sure whether your comment "he doesn't have to like it but he does have to accept it " was one of those occasions where a "wink" Emoticon was appropriate or not. I'm going to assume it was and that you chose the "cool" Emoticon instead.

Do I get the impression that you don't, in fact, use the Libraries? Others have told me how to do that, suggesting they may not either. Makes you wonder why Microsoft bothered creating them.

windows xp was built from windows 2000 core its first home user windows os that is built on NT.. previous os like 95, 98, ME was not NT.
basically windows xp was bloated windows 2000.. all the shiny luna theme etc.. windows xp was at that time ram hungry os plagued by bugs and security holes.
most of those problems was addressed in sp2 some in sp1.
still move from windows 98SE or ME that most home users did was great improvement.. but not so great from more mature windows 2000 that most business users did. ofcourse windows xp brought some optimizations compared to windows 2000.. and some "bad" things that some people did not liked.. as it is almost with every OS release.

P.S.... This gave me all the old files - but not the old icons . However, I need to find a quicker way into it.

From the Windows 7 "opening page" I have to follow this route to access one of my websites (for instance): Computer > Local Disk (E) > Documents and Settings > (my name) > My Documents > My Webs > (website name). There has to be a quicker, more way of doing it! Of course, I have to click on "Editing with Microsoft FrontPage" (aaargh, another old system!) to edit the web pages.

Here is how I would try to set it up.

I am not familiar with MS FrontPage (MSFP), but can you not save your website pages in MSFP?

Then all you would have to do is open MSFP, then to File, then Open or Recent Projects/Documents in MSFP to open your projects/websites.


You could try using the Documents or Recent Items areas located to the right of the Start Menu.
With Documents you would still have to hunt a little, but with Recent Items your most recent work should be there.

If you need more entries for Recent Items: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...change-maximum-number-display-start-menu.html Since you have Win 7 Pro you could use either option.

For your existing projects just drag and drop the lot you have in My Documents to MSFP.

There used to be one of these threads going almost continually, some were just to vent until they realized what a great OS Windows 7 is and just needed some helpful guidance with their frustrations.

The ones that didn't want to listen or accept any offers of help with their frustrations didn't stick around long anyway.

I think as long as dabber is trying and the thread can stay somewhat on topic his/her frustrations can be solved.

That is why I posted, but not to take sides.

Everyone took off with a like - dis-like attitude towards 7, but after I reached the 108th post and no one answered dabber's question on how to streamline his access to his websites in the 29th post, I decided to try and help.

I think the title of the thread may have put some folks on the defense.

Personally, I think the overall mission of our forum is to help and enlighten those with problems, sometimes personalities clash but I have seen many of these threads end with a

satisfied customer after getting the top notch help that Seven Forums is well known for.

In past years there was one of these threads going almost all the time. I think they caught a lot of attention because most were belligerently titled. Some had OP's that came around, others only wanted to vent.

The funniest were the ones who thought we were Microsoft. It felt like we were in the Progresso soup ad with the caller convinced he was talking with Grandma. "Yes, Ballmer's stepped out for a minute but we'll be sure to give him the message. You have a nice day."

I always posted the Dart and Lexus because I thought it an exact analogy, although few "got it." Two years later the once-muscled Dart looks even older, almost fragile now. XP can't get it up to install on most new PC's.

I think in spite of their spite the OP's learn some, at least pick up how much WIn7 is loved here. We're of course baffled how they miss the perfection, like some tech philistine.

What it largely comes down to is many people have used the old xp for so long they don't remember back when they first got it and had to learn a few things.
So they bash 7 because they have to learn a few things.
This thread seems to have gone on largely past it's usefulness. That's what I was driving at.
