Does windows generate errors on putting incorrect passwords?

Just curious does Windows 7 generates any errors in the background in the system files if we put incorrect passwords? for example I locked the windows and then put incorrect password or do it after turning on PC! Or anywhere where a password is required?

I locked my user, then entered a wrong password on purpose
and got these in the Event Viewer> Windows Logs> Security.





So I figure, YES.

Thanks YoYo155 for the detailed answer so basically Windows does something in the background as I noticed few times in my office that when I entered incorrect password the HDD loading light on PC blinks few times as it starts doing something in the Windows.

So in the Event Viewer it shows logs or it's some what an error generated by entering the wrong password?

For a home user an incorrect password would be the most common cause of a failed login. But it could also be due to login time restrictions or a locked account. And of course using an invalid login name.
