Hello everyone.

I installed Cpu_z to know my hardware and noticed that it's loaded at every boot. Actually the file cpuz132_x32.sys, upon booting, caused 5038 errors according to windows security log. I'm far from being a technie so I may be missing something on the matter but I don't see the reason to auto-run cpuz at every boot but only when one wants to know something it reports.

Is there a way not to run it on boot? Have I done something wrong during its installation?

if your talking about the application starting when you boot your machine, here's what you do to stop it..


start / search bar / type ''msconfig'' / startup / then remove CPUZ from the start up list..

Thanks for the tip, skunksmash, I didn't know that method.
Well, I should have explained it much better, sorry. The program itself doesn't run but must have some sort of activity on boot because at least the mentioned file cpuz132_32.sys is processed and actually causes a 5038 error. It seems to be related to the new NTFS Win.7 has. Because of this, I have uninstalled it and I'm going to try some other program to read my hardware out of all mentioned here, probably that named SIW because it looks like complete and easy to understand from my unskilled and quite limited knowledge on the matter.

Just take a look at it in your case. Often, the label is facing outward. If not, only 4-5 screws hold it in. Very simple to just take a peek at it. I'm unaware of any software that can identify it for you.

Not that I'm aware of. All you have to do is take off the side cover from your case. It's easy. Tools that identify hardware do so by reading the PCB [printed control board] software. I do not believe PSU's contain the model numbers, or manufacturer name on them.

No program that I know of to check the specs on your PSU, but this is a great tool for seeing what you should be using: eXtreme Power Supply Calculator
