Dora the Explorer

Hi

Can I ask your comment/help of this CD Rom, please? I was given this CD game a while ago. When I tried to use it (for my child), it did not work I believe it is a problem of compatibility because the disc is quite old (in terms of the version). I did try to use Windows build-in problem solving etc but had no success Is there something e.g. a driver I can download to resolve this please :huh:

Any idea, please ?

There is a possibility the disk itself has deteriorated over the past ten years. Can you see the files on the disk?

Yes, I can see them. Actually after using the Windows diagnoses (cant remember exactly what it was), I was able to see some videos for about 1 or 2 minutes. Then it simply disappeared after that...

I suspect the disk has deteriorated but try finding the boot file for the disk, right click on it, click on Properties and try running it in XP Service Pack 3 compatibility mode.

Ah... yes, this is what my computer suggested (Windows did) and I could see the video (perfectly) for a few minutes... I had forgotten what it called... also, it had a few options which I did not fully understood ... but I tried one or two and the results were the same.

... one more thing... the first message shown when the disc was put in is ' library not registered ' ?

For info, When Windows did the XP version, it did it differently... so maybe I can try it manually

It's hard to tell from your list since you don't have the file types showing. Typically, a boot file will have an .exe at the end of the filename but often programs will have multiple files with an .exe file type so it becomes kind of a guessing game as to which one is the one you want.

Thanks. I now remember. Attached shows what I had done before. Windows gave me service pack 2 instead of 3.

I tried it again anyway... same failure

If Service Pack 2 didn't work, then Service Pack 3 won't. Most likely, you have a deteriorated disk.

OK, never mind. My daughter has got more than enough games and toys anyway ... just wanted to make her even happier

I may buy some other games for her in the future .... recommendations are welcome.

Found the system Requirements For Dora the explorer.

Minimum System Requirements
Windows 98, Me, 2000 or XP (HE)
Intel Pentium II - 400MHz (PIII 500MNz recommended)
64MB RAM (128MB recommended)
8MB graphics card (12MB recommended)
Soundblaster compatible

@groze Computers in the market right now are way more powerful than the requirements.

We see Windows 8/8.1 in the market
Core i3, i5, i7, Celeron, Xeon, Pentium etc
2, 4, 6(sometimes), 8GB RAM etc
I don't know alot about the graphics cards in the market but they have way more VRAM then required.
IDT High-def audio.

My point is that all the computers available in the market are overkill for Dora the Explorer.
