Most of the time when I click onto a website and if my browser is not open, I get two browsers. One is my IE8 opening up the website I clicked onto and the other is usually opened but blank, saying connecting but never does - sometimes it is a duplicate website. When have my browser opened, it will open in another tab perfectly alright. I cannot understand it. I am not in the least bit techy (I don't seem to understand a lot of the questions here, and the answers are from Mars ) and hope you understand what I am saying. Is there anything I can do, please.

I have windows 7 ultimate and IE8 with google and not bing! (love 'em)

Has your system been set to respond to single clicks, and are you in fact double-clicking, thus causing two browser windows to open when you've come from a website shortcut ...

No, I only ever single click. I did try single and then double clicking a couple of weeks ago, but it makes no difference.

Go to search type in turn windows features. Then click on turn windows features on or off. Turn off ie (by removing the check) See if you can get on the net. If not restore IE. Now we know that it is IE that causes the problem and not another browser that you may have installed.

I turned if off and could not get into any website or anything because I did not have a browser. I forgot what to put into the search box, had a panic  and found the place again somewhere in the control panel and turned it back on. Fortunately all my setting were saved (phewwwwww) I am not good at this and think I will have to just put up with it :o Thank you for trying to help me :)

Wait, before you give up, Just make a system image, If you screw up, you can just go back with the image. It easy and cannot cause problems.

I have had too much of a scare. I have never heard of a system image and feel sure I most definately would 'screw up'. I will keep checking the forums and maybe someone else will have had the same problem and have a simple solution. I would like to thank you very, very much for trying. :D

Ok but make a system image any way. It is just a copy of your hard drive. In the event that you every screw up, you can go back with the system image. Just go to search and type system image. By default your machine is probably making them once a week anyway. Before you do anything else, learn about it. It can get you out of almost any problem there is, except kicking your computer when angry.

Most problems with IE are caused by misbehaving or conflicting add-ons. If you go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and click "Reset", this will reset IE back to it's default settings and unload added toolbars and other add-ons that may have been dumped on your system. It will put any configuration changes back to the out-of-the box settings. It will not break IE.
