Draw delay in win7?

Has anyone else noticed a delay in win7 when drawing, either with the mouse or a tablet in the adobe CS4 products? The cursor will move at the right speed, but it's like the line has to catch up to the cursor. It's done it in every Adobe product I've tried. Crappy little MS paint seems to keep up with the cursor though. I also notice a delay when just drawing a selection box on the desktop...

Anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it?

I had the same CS4 problem as you, not the desktop selection though.
I used extra scratch disks and upped the RAM usage and CS4 now runs nicely.
Oddly, it ran perfectly under Vista with no additional scratch disks, and the default RAM usage.

What about changing the some of the Performance options in Advanced System Settings.
(ignore the highlights ;)).

Have you tried (in Photoshop) reducing the number of history slates and cache levels?
The fact that you see the same thing on the desktop however, does lead me to think that it may not be Adobe.

I've played around with the photoshop caches and histories and it also didn't change anything.

I just installed win7 so I'm not totally familiar with all the tweaks. This totally helped. I turned it to best performance and still got some trailing in photoshop, but then I played with the different options and have gotten it to the point where no other programs trail and it's nowhere near as noticable in photoshop. Actually the more I play with it, it's not really trailing at all anymore, well depending on the brush i'm using apparently. I guess I need an upgrade.

I'm running a Q6600 which I want to oc to 3.ghz, 4gigs of corsair ram, a p6n diamond mobo, 750w ps, sb titanium x-fi, and an 8800GTS(512), with a couple of raptor drives. I think if I oc my cpu and upgrade my vid card I'd be set. I'm thinking maybe I should upgrade my ram too. I think my mobo can handle up to 16gig of ram.

Take a look at my specs, i have nowhere near what you have and PS-CS4 works perfectly (with the aforementioned tweaks) on my setup. Are you sure all of your drivers are up to date, in particular your graphics card. Are you taking advantage of OpenGL Drawing?
I believe you should be using this driver, is that the case?

I know it sounds stupid and maybe it's a placebo thing but when i had the same problem i found that having the screen a little smaller than full screen helped with the 'lag'.

Yeah, I did a fresh install of everything when I installed 7. I got all the latest drivers. I don't know if this makes a difference but i'm on 64-bit windows.

dude you know what. Since you mentioned the open gl thing I looked deeper into the settings. Vertical sync. I think vertical sync was causing probs. If I set my theme to windows basic, and disable vertical sync, I don't encounter the problems.

when all the extras are enabled in windows, does it enable vertical sync somewhere? does windows have a setting for that?

My nvidia panel has it set to be whatever the 3D application tells it to be. Hence I ask, does windows have a setting for it when the effects are turned on. I haven't been able to find one.

I don't think Windows has any settings to change this sort of thing, i may be wrong, but i've never seen anything like it before. If you have the same useless NVIDIA control panel that i do, i doubt it'll be much help either.

I'm still baffled as to why you're getting this problem in the first place, i know you can work around it with turning Aero off and tweaking the PS performance settings but you shouldn't have to! :sarc:

Yeah I dunno. It's weird. The only the nvidia control panel can do is to force v-sync off.

i think i'm gonna try something on my old crt and see if it really is the v-sync issue.

Photoshop lag

I had the same issues with CS2 with my Wacom tablet, turns out Windows 7 Pen and Touch and Flicks was causing a conflict.
Go to Pen and Touch in control panel and disable "press and hold", "start tablet pc input" and then disable "flicks" from the other tab.
This cured any lag I had, worth a try. Check out the Wacom forums for more information, theres loads of others with similar problems.

I'll look into that, but I've already disabled the pen tablet service, and the lag delay happens with a regular mouse as well as the tablet. Even when i uninstalled the tablet I was still getting the delay.

EDIT: messed with the press and hold. Still get the delay if the nice interface is on. Don't notice a delay if I strip out all the extras.

tried on both monitors.. The monitor doesn't seem to make a difference. And like I said, it's not just photoshop.

It kinda sucks. I like all of the added effects of 7. But if i have them on, the lines drag a half inch behind my cursor..

Are all of your mouse settings in control panel default?

Yeah. But I have an MX518 logitech mouse if that makes any difference. I get the same drag with both my tablet and my mouse. The cursor itself is where it's supposed to be, but the line it's drawing has to run to catch up. I wish i had a way to video capture what it looks like. The only thing i can think of is either I need more ram, or my current 2.4ghz is not able to keep up with everything in real time.

I even notice a slight delay when highlighting text on a webpage when the effects are on. Though that is extremely slight and I could be imagining it.

I found this in a search: http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/5397-they-need-fix-asap-aero-vsync.html

It makes me wonder if I'm not onto something with the vsync feature. There's gotta be a way to disable it. I've tried the nvidia option to force it off, but forcing doesn't always work. There's been times I've tried forcing AA and that didn't work, so I dunno if it's really off or not.
