U are joking right? Of course we looked there... There isn't an official driver for Hp laserjet 1010 win 7 64 bit.

What a stupid suggestion. If you feel like posting do it somewhere else

How did you install that 1020 driver? Is there a way to manually unpack the archive? The installation routine wants me to connect the printer an won't accept the 1010, so I don't get the driver working...

Any other solutions to the delay-problem? At least the printer is working somehow properly by now, I'm grateful for that as it is, but I'd still like to get it without those nasty delays, I takes ages...

I wanted to connect to a HP1010 connected to an XP machine over a network from my Windows 7 64 bit latop, here's how I did in (eventually);

Firstly I installed it locally on my laptop as a HP3055 as per post #30 (lyjo) and checked it was printing fine while connected to my laptop.

Plugged it back into the XP machine where the printer was shared.

Now do the following;

Devices & Printers
right click on printer select Printer Properties
Ports tab
Add Port
Local Port
New Port
enter "//[machine name]/[sharename]" as the port (actually backslash but can't type it into the forum)
OK
OK

You should be able to print a test page over the network now, though I took a reboot before everything worked properly.

Getting the Laserjet 1010 to work on Win 7 RC+1 (ver. 7201). I am running 32 bit version so I am not sure if this will work for the 64 bit version.

Note: Win 7 shares the same code base as Vista. Since there are not always Win 7 drivers available for devices, I have often found that Vista drivers will work.

I don't know when HP released Vista drivers for the 1010 (had to fight with this dang printer to get those working in the past), but they seem to have them now.

Here are the steps I took to get the 1010 working on Win 7.

Download HP drivers from here:
HP LaserJet 1010 Printer series*-* HP LaserJet 1010/1012/1015 Host Based Driver - HP Business Support Center

Unzip into a folder/destination of your choice (remember where you put it)

Go to Devices and Printers window (from win 7 start button)

Click Add Printer

Tell it Dot 4 printer as the Port type

Click Have Disk

When it can't find the driver on A drive, click Browse

Point it back to the Unzipped file location you saved earlier

It should find the .inf file at this point.

Follow the remaining steps.

This should work fairly easily...at least it did for me.

Jay

Thanks, your workaround worked perfectly fine for me although I found the printing process much slower than before when I was running XP with HP Laserjet 1010 native driver. I found surrealist that HP discontinued supporting this printer on Windows last OS... FYI I run Win 7 32-bit

I guess this is part of our zeitgeist...

Hello. I found a solution. Here is my hp 1010 printer working in Windows 7 64 bit. Not only that it is working but is recognized with the correct name. I also tried with 1012 and 1020 drivers but it only worked in vista 64 bit. And even there the printer refused to print from time to time. Here it is working greate. I have attached an image. I hope you ca see it. Pm. so I can send the working driver.
Thank you qadrian! I would like to get the driver please....as soon as possible! Thank you!! :)

Don't use the base driver. It works but is is very very very slow.
For printing 10 pages it takes about 3 minutes. So forget about it.
I just found a better way to use the printers in windows 7 64 bit.
Install the 1015 driver that cames with the windows 7.
I have just installed and it works great. Jut like the 1010 driver on 32 bit sistem. I am so happy I got rid of that huge delay.
Let me know how it works on you sistems.

By the way .. you have to update the windows drivers database in order to have the 1015 driver available.
Good luck to you.

So, where is the driver?

ok... so zatland, what you do is this. (for a windows 7 (64 bit), but may work for 32 too, not sure)
go to 'devices and printers' in your comp
go to 'add a printer'
go to 'add a local printer'
go to 'Use an existing port' - LPT1 (printer port) - then next
then click the 'update windows' button. The driver isn't there otherwise. It's be a few minutes probably then:
Look for HP, and HP laserjet 1015.
It'll install after that. It looks like it may work.
I've set it up but won't find out if it works until tomorrow at work. But apparently the people above say it works well.

Cheers all for the awesome thread.

Ecomode

I installed the win 7 hp 1015 inside driver for my hp 1015 device and it always prints in ecomode. I can not find the ecomode button in its setup that it was in the XP driver. Please help me how can I turn off the ecomode?

Thanks in advance,
Bird
