Solved Driver for Logitech Webcam S5500

This is an older webcam, Logitech S5500, also marked "V-UCR 45." Using it with my desktop computer.

I'm looking for a possible driver for Win7-64, but I don't know if one exists. There's nothing on Logitech's site. I tried DriverScape, and they wanted me to pay for a driver download program. Softpedia gave me one free, but it was from 2008, older than Win 7. It doesn't run at all.

if neither of those work, plug in the device and reboot, then go to start > run > msinfo32 > components > problem devices and see what it says. If your system has not installed a driver, the problem device area with show the webcam's Hardware ID, a unique string that applies only to your device. Googling that string will usually locate your driver on the net

That's it and those are both the same file, dated 2009. The problem was that I didn't know the software would have such a generic name, and I was looking specifically for "S5500." Thanks for the search tip.

It started installing, but I'm getting the same UAC garbage, even if I "Run as Admin." "You don't have permission to install this." I switched to the Hidden Admin account and got a similar message "insufficient privileges," then 5 reasons for denial, but 4 aren't valid. One is "you don't have permission to access C:\Program Data. Contact your administrator." I also tried temporarily lowering the security lever on my user account. Then I tried the other copy of the file, from the other page you cited.

I'm getting weary of this. I hate Win 7.

You misunderstood. I have the right file, but the UAC is driving me nuts. This isn't the first program that I haven't been able to install, even if I swung a chicken around my head 3 times and said a little barucha. I can post that problem in another section of the forums if you're stymied.

Driver Assist doesn't D/L the webcam driver. It wants to update all other drivers in my computer, and didn't find the webcam anyway. Those programs are scammy, usually want to charge you, whereas I can do all the other drivers myself.

i'm not familiar with that issue but there are a lot of hits on google for "don't have permission to install driver". Maybe a fix is there

Nobody suggested that you use Driver Assist. Look at the link I sent you again!
When you say "You misunderstood. I have the right file," what file?
Have you tried the "Take Ownership" option?

Both of the links on that page actually D/L Driver Assist. Those companies are deceptive.

I have the file from the link Johnhoh suggested in the 2nd post. It's lws110_x64.exe Except that it's 64-bit, it highly resembles my original driver on XP. I've gone way past "Taking ownership." I've used the Hidden Administrator Account, which has the highest authority. As that wasn't my original problem, I've posted it elsewhere.
