Hello all,

I need some major help with my computer. I changed my motherboard from an nvidia 780i to an Asus P5Q Pro Turbo with the P45 chipset. I wiped out my RAID array and created a new one since this is now an Intel RAID instead of whatever nvidia used. Well, got Windows 7 installed however I get BSOD like every 30 minutes with Driver_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL_TO or something like that. I've installed all the needed drivers from ASUS for Windows 7 x64 and I don't understand why the errors on a clean install.

Is Windows 7 . . .
- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
- the original installed OS on the system? No
- an OEM or full retail version? Retail
- OEM = came pre-installed on system
- Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer

- What is the age of system (hardware)? Most of it within 2 years, brand new motherboard
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) brand new install

Hi,

You have STPD.sys present - this known to cause BSODs; remove Daemon Tools, then use this SPTD installer to remove it (pick the uninstall option when you run the installer): DuplexSecure - Downloads

AsIO.sys - This is also present, it is part of several ASUS hardware monitoring/overclocking software suites. Remove any software that fits this description for now.

Use Revo Uninstaller to remove them - Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems

Also, it would pay to run a Memtest considering the newness of the hardware.

memtest looks solid, running for the last 10 minutes with no errors on any of the 4 DIMMs. I am going to wipe and clean install Windows 7 again and see what happens and this time I won't start installing everything I can find from Asus.

I'll let you know how it goes but thanks for the quick analysis

To run memtest properly it should take several hours (for 7+ passes).

Given the newness of the system I would have gone for a re-install too.

When you do, try not to install much until you are satisfied it is stable. If it is not stable when you have almost nothing installed then you are looking at some form of hardware fault.

Ok so I installed Windows again after removing the RAID array, and recreating it therefore erasing all data. Install goes fine. I then installed the ATI5970 10.8 driver, rebooted, then the Intel RAID driver, rebooted, then the ATHEROS LAN driver, and rebooted. Then I proceeded to start some windows updates and it crashed with the same error while downloading the windows updates, didn't even get far enough to begin installing them.

I'm logged in from my laptop right now so I will need to post the new crash files... will do so shortly.

Hi,

Run that memtest again - for several hours overnight this time. Also note that even if the Memtest passes it doesn't rule out a RAM fault (just makes it less likely).

I have one main reason for agreeing with the probable cause here - note the 1st parameter of fffffa7f`ffffffd0

That parameter represents the Memory referenced at the time of the crash. If you look back at the previous BSODs you can see that this parameter is the same for all. That is too great a co-incidence in my mind.

Reventon

I'm running a 8 GB configuration in 4x2GB with Corsair DDR2-1066. It was always a little buggy with my EVGA Nvidia 780i and never seemed to like 4 DIMMs very much. Maybe this board likes it even less. I am using ASUS certified memory at the correct speed.

I'm going to take out 4 GB and see if it stabilizes and if not, I will run the memtest overnight. I'll keep everyone posted.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Alright so I found some data online relating to this new board I got, it's an ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo. Apparently by default it doesn't care if your RAM is clocked above DDR2-800, it treats it at 800 regardless. I also found several people having issues with this board with DDR2-1066 memory.

I found some recommended BIOS settings to run stable at DDR2-1066 on this motherboard so I set them. I'm still running with 4 GB of RAM instead of 8 GB but I haven't crashed since the one I posted an hour or so ago.

Ok, by fixing that you have probably fixed the BSODs. Let us know how it goes.

More news... 4 GB of RAM stable for a couple hours, even with an overclock on my QX9650 to 3.6 Ghz. I put it back to 3.0 Ghz stock and didn't change any RAM settings, still the recommended DDR2-1066 BIOS settings for this motherboard... and I put the additional 4 GB back in.

Before:
Prime95 run along side Furmark along side a Windows based RAM tester. I was stressing the machine as intense as I could, stable with 4 GB RAM DDR2-1066

After:
Crashes immediately when starting Prime95 test with 8 GB of RAM.

I'm going to leave out the extra 4 GB and call ASUS/Corsair on Monday to complain. The memory is certified so it should run either way.
