Driver needed for Canon LBP2900 printer

Hi All
Does anyone know where I can get a driver for the above printer that works on Windows 7 or is there a driver from another printer that can be used?

not a solution - but a workaround

to get my lbp2900 printer working i used the following workaround
- Installed virtualbox (maybe this is also possible in virtualpc)
- started a virtual winxp image
- virtualbox has a remote usb-bridge to connect to usb-devices not recognised by the host-system, configure the bridge to the printer
- install lbp2900 driver

To print from office/photoshop without installing those in the virtual image, on the host system print to pdf (pdfcreator) and print the pdf in the virtual image.

however i still hope canon releases their x64 lbp2900 driver soon! :huh:

Would you mind explaining it little bit more? I have the same problem with drivers, I installed virtual box, but I don't know how to actually use it now... It recognized that Canon is connected via USB, but I don't know how to play drivers from CD..

Might I suggest you send him a PM since it has been awhile since this was posted.Of course it was his only post but maybe by me bumping this (so to speak ) you might get some help. Or start your own thread. Help setting up vitrtual box ect. Fabe

Canon will support its laser printer, multifunctional, fax and personal copier products with Windows 7. Detailed information will be available closer to start of sales of Windows 7.

So far, they haven't released any drivers for your printer. You will have to keep checking their website for updates.

@theog, I've tried to find driver there, but there is no driver even for Vista 64-bit, but especially for win 7, as kegobeer said...We have to wait a little bit more..

The thing is I really need my printer to work now, and Peter73 obviously found some way to trick windows 7 with virtualbox

Hi All. I managed to sort out the problem by installing the driver in compatibility mode. Go to the setup.exe file. Right click and select properties and left click on compatibility and install the driver using the recommended settings. My settings were install using Windows XP SP3 mode. Worked perfectly for me. I was then able to even use my other computer(laptop) wirelessly to print. I found this solution not long after I originally posted the problem and I meant to post the solution but I forgot. Sorry about that. Hope it works for you.

This is definitely NOT solved. I agree with ghosts above.

Canon LBP2900 will not install in any compatibility mode presented on Windows 7 64bit. I have tried XP SP3 (under which it worked fine) and all the others too.

Canon say their driver works for Win 7 but they lie. Their driver support (for cameras too) is hopeless.

I don't know if anybody is still interested, but Canon released a 64 bit Windows driver for the LBP 2900 printer on 9th March 2010. It is on the Canon Europe website. I have installed it successfully on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Thanks indeed. Luckily I had not got rid of my 2900 as I had an old OKI that I installed on 7 x64 as a standby.

I called Canon UK about a month ago and they just said "in development" so good to see them arrive, albeit late on the scene.

I can confirm these drivers are working 100% fine.

If you can not install this driver for windows 7 x64, maybe your Printer spooler service is desactivated.

Make sure it is not going to : Control panel --> Administration device --> Services

Right click --> Printer spooler

Click --> Proprieties --> Starting type: Automatic.
