Is this a new install?

Win7 is driver-complete in the installer and then updated via optional Windows Updates. I would not change any drivers given by the installer or Updates unless specific performance problems point to a driver.

Yes, XP installs require many if not most drivers to be provided from the manufacturers website.

Based on the experience with Vista where manufacturers held out providing drivers to get us to buy newer hardware, MS spent almost a billion dollars subsidizing drivers for Win7 under WHQL so they would have them first in the installer and quickly updated via optional Updates.

So there is no reason to follow old outdated XP methods by changing out drivers provided by the installer or Updates unless performance problems point directly to a specific driver.

FWIW: If it is working ok, then don't mess with it. Especially bios updates and such. If the driver updates from the manufacuters site have an increased capability or speed increase. then update from their site otherwise leave it alone and enjoy your computer. Don't get paranoid about updating unless something is not working.

I have dos 6.22, wfwg 3.11, win98, 2000 and xp VHD's available for testing. MS's Virtual PC works great.
This may be crazy, but I do it this way. If every thing is working properly I leave the drivers alone. New drivers can't fix things that are not broken. If everything is working correctly I also leave the Bios alone.

Personally I always update my drivers with the latest version supplied by the manufacturer. It's never broken anything and often adds functionality that isn't there with the windows default drivers. While Windows 7 does come with a lot of supplied drivers, I would think a lot of them are now getting out dated. I'd rather get them from the manufacturer than though windows update. Just my 2 cents, everybody is entitled to there opinion, and thats mine. :)

I do this with the exception of two things. I always do update my BIOS, and I will also update my graphics drivers on my gaming tower, because they often include performance enhancements.
