dual boot win 7 and win 10?

I have win 10, but win 7 has the WMC.
Can I install win 7 in a free partition on the hard drive? And will I then get a boot menu at startup to select 7 or 10?

Yes but win-10 often switches boot timing to Zero seconds so you need to adjust it quite a bit = pretty much every time 10 needs to restart after installing updates.
Otherwise you'll never see the boot options on startup.

I think If I start with win 10, then add win 7, the win 7 boot loader might be doing the boot duty and presenting the win 7 boot selection menu?

If so, how would you switch boot window back to win 10 style?

All I had to do is shut down from win-10 and 10 would auto startup on restart

It depends on which os is default for which boot screen you get,
If 7 is default you get the well known black and white boot selection page
If 10 you'd get the 10 boot selection page

You'd need to disable fast startup in win-10 as I believe the tutorial might of mentioned if not see this one,
