Dual Booting Windows 7 with XP - Stuck at "setup is starting windows"

Hi,
This is my first post so apologies if I've not done it correctly
I am following this guide :

When I boot from CD, the setup loads all the files. Then it says "setup is starting windows" and boots back into windows 7.

Does anybody know why this happens, or how to fix it?

Where did you get WIn7? How is it burned to disk or flash stick installer?

It came pre-installed with my laptop. I plan to install XP into a new partition

So the problem you describe is when trying to install XP? Where did you get the XP disk? Check the disk to make sure it is clean and unscratched - it may need washing and drying with a soft cloth. If the problem persists make sure the CD drive will boot and run another disk.

You will need the Win7 disk for your licensed version to do repairs after XP install, so download and burn it to DVD now from Steps 1 and 2 of http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164. Then test that it will boot and run by practicing a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/681-startup-repair.html?ltr=S. This should tell you if the CD/DVD drive is working correctly.

Once XP is installed it will steal Win7 boot so you'll need to boot into the Win7 disk http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...om/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html Command Line to Mark Win7 or it's System Reserved (preferred if you have it) Partition Active, then run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105541-startup-repair-run-3-separate-times.html until Win7 starts.

Then install EasyBCD (click Download - no Name or Email required) to add XP from Win7.

I had to burn it myself to have the SATA drivers.
I think it may be because Windows hasn't closed the disk off when I burnt it.
I'm gonna try burning in a new disk with ImgBurn instead.
Also can I install EasyBCD on XP instead, and then use it to go back into windows 7 and install it there instead of using my recovery disc?
Or can I edit my bios so that the win7 disk partition will boot first?

Did you follow the tutorial for slipstreaming the XP CD exactly? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/72185-sata-drivers-slipstream-into-windows-xp-cd.html?ltr=S

Sounds like the disk is bad.

You would have saved us a lot of time if you'd mentioned you're installing XP and using a slipstreamed CD to begin with. Did you think these weren't important enough to mention??
