Hi everyone,

I need some help if possible. I have a dell laptop with Windows 7 that is being used as a desktop through a docking station.

My friend gave me this set up and he had dual monitors. When he gave me the computer, I only had one monitor and it was working fine. I need to set up two monitors for work and I just bought another one. I am trying to hook it up and it isn't working. I have been reading about video cards and I'm not even sure what that is but am I correct in assuming that isn't my problem since the same computer was used with two monitors before?

I have the original monitor hooked up to the blue port just as it was before. I have the second monitor plugged into the White DVI cable but it wasn't detected on my computer. I restarted the computer and then the second monitor plugged into the DVI part started working and my original monitor in the blue port was black.

I right clicked on the home screen and clicked screen resolution but it only shows the one monitor. I hit detect and nothing. Only 1 monitor is identified.

Any help is appreciate. I am not that great with computers so I hope I explained this well/

Thanks!

It`s possible only 1 monitor can be used externally, either the vga or the dvi, to test, unplug the vga and just try the dvi connection.
