DVD/CD Win 7 drivers missing or corrupted

I can't install a dvd multifunction device because win 7's internal drivers for this device are corrupted or missing. This problem happened when I tried to install a USB ported camera made for XP. It was a mistake on my part not reading the box, which did not say Win 7 on it. My computer repair guy said re-install Win 7. I would like to know if there is a way to re-instate these drivers without a re-install of Win 7. Thanks

Try a Repair Install. That is essentially reinstalling Windows, but without any backup needed.

How long ago did this happen? Could you do a System Restore to get to a point before you made those changes?

This happened about Jan 15th, the oldest restore point is Jan 6th. After attempting to restore from this point the program said it restored the Windows Registry but could not restore files due to an Anti-virus program possibly running. So next I thought an F8 at bootup would be a better place to attempt a restore from. The instructions on the web for a safe mode recovery says that I need an administrator or user password. I don't think I have a password for administrator or user. Is ia password really required? Also will this revert windows driver files to an earlier time?
Here is an important question I need to know; Will I have to re-install my other programs with a "Repair Install" or a "Re-install?"

First, you will not need to reinstall any programs if you do a repair install.

Second, if you want to do a system restore, try turning off your anti-virus first.

Windows Technicians; You failed in your attempt to help me with my missing or corrupted CD and DVD drivers. A computer repair shop told me the fix. Here is the fix:

Regedit.... HKLM/SYSTEM/CCS/CONTROL/CLASS/4D36E965-08002BE10318
Delete..... Upper and Lower Filters

Simple fix and it worked.
