"DVD drive device drivers missing" in Win7 installation setup

Hi,
my attempt to install windows 7 today ended in

!!!!
When I boot from the DVD, choose the Language and press "Install" I get an Error message stating "A DVD/CD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver CD/Floppy please insert it now..."

Here are my specifications-

I have experienced this same problem with Vista x86 and x64.
I am trying to clean install Windows 7 64bit.

I put the drivers on a thumb drive and Browse to it when 7 prompts me. Funny thing is, Windows 7 reads all the other files on the thumb drive like .psds, .flas, .skps, and so on.... but it just plays stupid to the actual drivers for the motherboard/chipset. The system rejects XP and I was forced to put Ubuntu on it. Ubuntu sucks, nothing runs. I know all about WINE to get some programs to run but I use the entire Adobe Suite.

Did you unzip the 64 bit drivers to the stick, then browse to the .ini file?

What happens when you try 32 bit install?

Is this a factory made dvd or a home brewed one? In the latter case it could be a bad burn or corrupted file.

It's not a bad burn because the Vista disc pulls the same nonsense.
I am using home brewed OS discs burnt with POWERIso.

I extracted the drivers onto the thumb drive and still, it sees the folders but nothing inside them.

The only 32-bit install I tried was Vista.
The original OS on it was Vista Home Premium 64bit on the original HDrive.
Ubuntu had installed so it proved to me the new HDrive was working.

I have gotten XP on it but am suffering from lack of drivers for the Nvidia9100 card and my Realtek sound card.
So, the windows move very choppy and I have no sound.

I will be more than satisfied with XP if someone can help me with this driver issue.

Try wiping the HD to get any GRUB off, as it messes with WIn7 installation.

Boot WIn7 DVD Repair console or Repair CD, open a Command Line, type:
DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK # (for Windows 7 disk)
clean all (applies zeros, deepest clean, takes about an hour per 320gb)
create partition primary
select partition 1
assign letter=c:
active
format
exit

Now try booted Custom install to partition you have just created, with all other HD's and USB devices unplugged.

Thanks guys, Gregrocker, I will try your method after I try the thumb drive one.
-Can you validate that this method will bypass the driver issue I am experiencing?

I am currently using the thumb drive method and need to know where I can find a version of W7 that is a valid .iso image to use with the USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create.

The .iso I used to burn to disc with POWERiso is not being recognize by the application.

Where did you get Windows 7?

Verify the DVD burn against ISO using ImgBurn Verify. Does it say Bootable in text at left when you load ISO?

If necessary burn a new DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed with verify. It never fails.

The commands to deep clean your HD were given because you referred to Linux having been on the HD. GRUB frequently messes with Win7 install and needs to be deep cleaned off of it's partition or the HD. You can deep clean just one partition using free Partition Wizard bootable CD "Wipe Partition" utility.

Your driver issues may in fact be a bad installer or GRUB interference. The missing CD/DVD driver error is rarely a SATA controller issue but more often bad installer.

Post back exact error after confirming your DVD burn and deep cleaning Linux partition or (better yet) HD using the DISKPART Clean All commands I gave earlier.

Gregrocker, I own a copy of Windows Vista64 and can validate via the authentication code on the side of my tower.
I feel jipped by Microsoft due to the fact that I'd rather of had a hard copy disc with the pc instead of it being already installed on a prefab tower I purchased at BJs. I didn't get around to burning a dvd off of the factory installed partition of Vista (It's only been a year).

My point is: My pc has the specs to run 7 so I am going to just install that via a torrent version.

If you can refer me to a guaranteed working copy of 7, it would be great.
Otherwise I am going to fish back into torrents and attempt the method you have suggested.

Do you think I should just try and reinstall a copy of Vista64?
If that is the case then I still have to fish for a working torrent.

Oh by the way, when you say "repair console", Do you mean on the Windows 7 install disc?
Because when I select "Repair Computer", It takes a while and then I get a dialogue box with 2 buttons, 2 radial buttons, and 2 empty fields:It's all blank.
I click on a button and it brings me to another dialogue box that is slightly different, but yet, still all blank.

This has made me believe it is a 'badburn"

Yes, reinstall Vista 64 with the license key stickered to the tower. It will be a much cleaner install without factory bloatware and it will be legal.

When you can afford to buy Win7 Home Premium upgrade version (for around $105 if you shop around) then we can help you with it's install since we do not assist with piracy here.

Well, As long as I have the authentication code then I own Vista64 for life.
Since anyone can own a Vista64 disc without a code, then the disc is simply a 30 day trial version that anyone can own.
In this case it is not piracy.

So, can anyone help me with a resource that I can get another -reliable- copy of Vista64?

I recommend borrowing one from a friend.

Any installer can have all versions unlocked using the ei.cfg removal tool, so that you can install your licensed version: Ei.cfg Removal Utility Lets You Use Any Product Key With Your Windows 7 Disc

Safe cautious downloading is an option but also not promoted here because it encourages piracy.
