Solved Win7 install: A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing...

Hello All

I'm trying to do a clean install of Win7 Pro 64-Bit, inc SP1, on a friends HP EliteBook 850 G3 via a bootable USB stick drive.

The installation started, then I got the missing device driver error message above.

I tried again with the OEM disc in an external USB optical drive and got the same message.

The EliteBook 850 G3 only has USB 3 ports... which I think may be the issue.

Does anyone know a way 'round this problem?

Okay, problem solved; I used the Win7 USB 3 Creator Utility.

When you follow the link go to the "Search Downloads" field and start typing in USB 3, it should be the 4th result.

When you run the application follow the instructions carefully; it took about 20mins to add the USB 3 drivers to my bootable USB stick, and you'll know it's finished when you see "Update finished!" in the dialog box.

Yeah, found that out this afternoon... Win7 installed without a problem, then I had no working USB 3 ports so I could install the rest of the drivers! :(

I found the DISM GUI tool, but when I went to add the drivers to the install.wim image the tool said there were no drivers in the folder... I opened the folder and there they were.

Anyway, I've been messing with this for too long and my brain is getting fogged, I'll come back to it tomorrow, but thanks for the reply!

why companies are making boards without usb 2.0 ports is absolutely absurd.
