DVD drive disappears after inserting disk

Hello, i'm having some trouble with my dvd drive. I've searched the forums and googled it, and found some similar problems but no solution worked.

I have an ASUS B85M-G motherboard, with a 120GB SSD that has the OS and works perfectly, a samsung HDD 750gb sata2 that dissapeared ONCE and my sata2 DVD drive that disappears whenever I insert a disk.

If i go to device manager and search for new hardware, the drive comes up and works perfectly (if it has the dvd i want already on it) but disappears again when i change the disk, and sometimes just when i take out a disk.

I've tried deleting the upper and lower filter registry keys, reinstalling the drivers (just found 2 that applied: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS90 ATA Device (which is installed automatically) and CD-DVD ROM which i select from the drivers list). I've tried using a different SATA cable and a different SATA port.

It seems incredibly strange that it disappears upon inserting a cd or dvd, but works perfectly if i "rediscover" it from the device manager.

Well, that's it folks, thanks in advance for any help.

For the moment, I can only offer basic troubleshooting steps:
- Load defaults in BIOS
- Run in elevated cmd:
Code:
sfc /scannow
- also run if corruption is found
Code:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >"%userprofile%\desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
- try the DVD drive on another PC
- you can also try a clean startup in case some app/service is interfering - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...ation-conflicts-performing-clean-startup.html

Hey GokAy, thanks for the tips. I should mention that this is a new build and i reinstalled windows 7 a couple of times already. I'm running the sfc scan and will try the rest of the troubleshooting tips.

The sfc didn't return any corruption error, and the clean start up didnt fix the issue even with everything disabled.
Any thoughts?

Try the DVD drive on another PC
Try another DVD drive on your PC

You can also try booting with a Linux Mint MATE DVD/USB (no installation needed) and see if it is alright or not.

I'm having OP's same issue. I have an LG internal drive (GH24NS90). Every time I put a disk in it, the drive disappears from both My Computer and the Device Manager windows. If I disable and re-enable "ATA Channel 1" under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers" in Device Manager, I am able to read the disk that is in the drive. If I open the drive and close it with a disk in it, the drive disappears again, but I am able to re-activate it via the above method, though this stops me from being able to install anything that requires more than one disk.

EDIT: I just scanned for corrupt files, and some were found. I attached the details for it.
