DVD Drive not being detected by Win 7 Ultimate

Ok guys, I have managed to switch it to IDE instead of AHCI in BIOS, it's working fine now, restarted a couple of times and it's fine! Also computer seems to boot a bit faster as well. I would like to say thanks to Adrian and Antman for being really helpful. Thanks for spending time to help me.

Regards,
ADT

I have the exact same problem with ADT. How exactly do I switch to IDE instead of AHCI in BIOS? I tried looking for that option in BIOS but I just can't seem to find it.

Much help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome to Windows 7 Forums.
Marco, access your bios and look for storage devices, use page up, page down to access your drives.
Use the plus or minus key to change options. Attached is a screen shot for you to review,

Regards,
Adrian

Install the intel matrix storage manager -
You will find it at the intel site - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx
Select chipsets - laptop chipsets - intel mobile 965 express chipset family - select drivers (27) (under download type -skip OS's)- scroll down to and select intel(R) matrix storage manager 8.9.0.1023 - download and install.

This should work please post back if does or doesnt work.

If you can tell me the name of your laptop - there must a few versions - what you need to do is go to the hp site - type - hp.com in the address bar of your browser and hit enter - click support & drivers - select download drivers & software and type in the name of your laptop under "enter a product name/number" - it will be a DV9700 something and see what drivers come up - find anything that is chipset, sata, or AHCI and update, also look for a firmware update for the dvd rom.

OK i think i found it - HP Pavilion dv9723ca Entertainment Notebook PC -

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=3653581&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us&submit=Go%20»

You could go to the nvidia site and update to the latest nforce chipset drivers - setup a restore point firstly :
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Sorry I cant be of more help, but you could help yourself in the future by filling out your system specs.

:( I actually got my laptop repaired because of that issue, and they recommended me to just format my whole hard drive and clean install Windows 7. When I got home, my DVD Drive was gone again. I'll have a go at those downloads but if it doesn't work, I'll just do what the technician said. Thanks for the help!
