Hello i recently migrated my system drive from old computer to new one using sysprep procedure described here in seveforums. I successfully restored system in new computer and installed all new drivers. All work fine except one thing. I cant read any disc inserted to my blue ray and dvd drive. Blu ray is brand new and dvd is older. Problem is same on both - any disc I put to drive is not loaded - instead tray open and I have message Insert Disc. Behaviour is same on both drives so its not drive related problem. Both drives are listed in device manager: HL-DT-ST BD-RE BH16NS40 SCSSI cdrom device and HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH20LS15 SCSI cdrom... NO conflict mark on them. I only wandering why its listed as scsi .. its normally connected via sata 6.

Does somebody know where can be problem ? I tried fix it from microsoft - but it dont fix that. Ran ccleaner to clean registry - but still same. My motherboard is ASUS Z97 DELUXE. Dunno what else should I try ?

thx in advance

UPDATE: I checked system by running sfc /scannow - No integrity corruption was detected. I also tried uninstall both drive drivers and reboot so windows install them again. Still same result ..Dunno what else to try...

I ran into the same issue on a Gateway Vista Notebook yesterday. My temporary solution for saving data to DVD was to plug in an External USB CD/DVD drive [got it for a Netbook] and do the copying. I have to assume the internal drive has lost its sensor for determining that a disc has been inserted but then the Notebook is 6 years old and other than floppy drives Optical drives have a reputation of failing without notice. Adding the free CDBurnerXP program didn't change things, just made burning easier than using the Vista applet.

Hi davidmara and welcome to Seven Forums.
The first thing you want to try will be drivers for your motherboard from here:

Motherboards - Z97-DELUXE(NFC & WLC) - ASUS
Get the chipset drivers, reboot and then the sata drivers.

and this one
Asmedia SATA Controller Driver V2.0.8.1 for Windows 7/8/8.1 32bit & 64bit.(WHQL)
Post back after rebooting

That what I did already before - installed all available drivers for my board from asus website. I did test now - I selected drives as first to BOOT in bios and insert win 7 installation dvd. Tested one drive tha n second drive. Result is: it dont work even from bios level. Both drives didnt load anything from win 7 installtion disk. SO now it looks more like hardware problem than software. Its kinda strange .. Hard Drives work all fine, USB also fine, only problem are dvd/blu-ray drives. They dont work even if I try boot from them. I tested dvd drive on second computer where It boot fine and work okay. Looks like I have some problem with motherboard or used wrong cables . Is that possible ? But if motherboard is problem, I should have also probůlem with hard drives as they are connected to same sata. This is really weird. I used sata cables with white end which comes with motherboard... in second (old) computer i have that older red sata II cable. But I think all that sata I II III cables should be compatible ?

EDIT: I even tried flash motherboard BIOS to latest version but still same.... I never seen anything like this. I seen board with whole sata controller fired or damaged ... but it wasnt working completely but never seen that harddrives work fine and dvd/bluray devices not on same sata. I dunno maybe I have to switch some jumper on board or ..dunno :-( where else can be problem..

Have a look in the advanced SATA settings in the bios and make sure all your SATA devices are activated, there is an option in Asus bios to disable SATA inputs and also to remove the power from the sata input for use as an external input. I would use the last 2 SATA inputs for your Blu ray and DVD drives. There is also an option to select IDE or ACHI, it does not generally matter on Blu ray and DVD drives but make sure all the others are set to ACHI.
