Windows 7 RTM Can Render DVD Drives Inaccessible | Vista Home

This has happened to me and i thought i was going nuts, but it explains why my drives just vanish after installing 7.

I will stick with vista until all of this is sorted.

More specs are needed first. many things could be;
is your DVD win 7 compatible?
what version of win7 RTM are you using?
where did you get your download?
is your install borked?
is your install corrupted?
what version x86 or x64?

The software giant even revealed the specific devices that are affected by problems: “This problem may occur if you use one of the following DVD drives on the computer: Sony BC-5100S DVD, Sony BC-5600S DVD and TSST TS-L633B DVD+/-RW.”
According to Microsoft there are two workarounds that end users can turn to. The first is the simplest, and it involves updating the firmware for Sony BC-5100S DVD, Sony BC-5600S DVD and TSST TS-L633B DVD+/-RW. “To check for an applicable firmware update, contact the manufacturor of the DVD drive,” Microsoft noted.
Windows 7 also states only 4 Sony devices are Windows 7 compatible.
None listed above are in the list.
Therefore it is the Device Manufacture not Windows 7 the OS.

In device manager is available DVD/CD-ROM section? If yes open it and read error code -probably you have 22 "Device is disabled" but you have to confirm is that true or not.If I have right:

1.Diagnose your problem Control Panel >>Troubleshooting>>Hardware and Sound>>Configure device and next follow to creator
2.Update drivers for DVD,if still no result update drivers for chipset and BIOS

I ha to put vista back on as i could not get the dvd drive to work under 7. The notebook is brand new and the drive is a Slimtype DVD A DS8A3S.
When i had 7 on it would not even appear in device manager at all and my download came directly from MSDN, it is working fine on the desktop pc i have.

I also have another notebook with the same make of drive, but not the same model and it also happens with that as well.

I did run the win 7 upgrade advisor and it found no issue's with my system.
How do i find out if my drives are ready for windows 7.
