dvd insert disc error message

Dvd player doesn't recognize any discs, just ejects and gives a Please Insert Disc error message. Device manager says dvd is working properly and driver is up to date. I was able to boot from the disc but that didn't solve the problem. I tried to edit the registry but I didn't have UpperFilters and LowerFilters in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

Welcome to the forums user100!

I had this exact same problem awhile back, every diagnostic there is said everything was peachy, but I got the same results as you. I was due a reinstall anyway (I do that at least twice a year), and after that it worked just fine. Have you tried running a sfc/scannow? No Boot Device Available

I ran the sfc /scannow, I tried the fixit tools, and I took the dvd player out and cleaned the laser, but none of that resolved the issue. So, when I went ahead to repair install Windows 7 using the tutorials, I realized that I wasn't able to boot from the disc. I thought that having changed the boot order in the BIOS and having a successful boot up meant that I had booted from the disc, but I didn't see the screen that says Windows is loading files. Instead I got other boot options - repair start up, safe mode, last known start up, normal, etc. and none of those fixed the problem with the dvd.

When go into the boot menu and select the dvd player, I get a message that tells me No Boot Device Available. Is there anything else I can try before I go out and buy an external dvd?
