hello
To prevent my computer from going out of sleep mode by itself I have to unplug my ethernet cable, that's 1 problem but I don't really care.
The other problem is when I come out of sleep mode, my DVD player opens by itself, I close it, and it reopens
huh?
=(

Hello JP, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You can do STEP SIX in the tutorial below to uncheck the "Allow to wake computer" Power Management option for yout network adapter in the Control Panel Device Manager.

Power Options and Sleep Mode Problems - Vista Forums

Strange, I'm not sure why your DVD drive keeps opening though. Is it empty?

Hope this helps,

Shawn

yes it is empty, and the green light is flashing (the one that usually flashes if the drive is reading something)

Hi JP83,

Thats a really strange problem, have you checked with your pc manufacture or the manufacture of the dvd drive for a firmware update to it?

JP,

Do you have the latest firmware installed for you DVD drive?

You might also crack the case open to see if the power and data cables are securely and properly connected.

On the link you provided above, click it and then click the "Updates" tab. There you will find what looks to be a downloadable program that when ran will detect what firmware you have. Suggest running this to determine if you have the latest firmware version.

If you have something less than 1.58, download the firmware update version 1.58 and follow instructions on how to install.

it is not detecting it, I will check the bios and then open my case

edit : a complete shutdown followed by a startup solved the problem a reboot did not it could be my new motherboard too, since my DVD player is IDE, to be honest I have no clue

Open device manager, expand CD & DVD rom drives,

Double click on your DVD drive

go to the details tab

from the drop down, choose hardware id's

in there should be the firmware version. It may not be clear, but it should be there. If your unsure, post a pic of that window with the "hardware id's" being shown.

JP, I'm happy to hear that it seems like the problem has sorted itself out for you. I would still check to see if you have the lastest firmware installed for the DVD drive though. :)

Also, if you download and run the firmware version 1.58, it will usually check and display which version you currently have and ask you if you want to update it. If you have the same version (1.58) then cancel the update, if its older then allow it to continue.

Looking at the readme file there, the newer firmware should help improve writability on DVD-R DL media and on +R media at least.

You snuck that in on me. lol ;)

No it probably won't correct the sleep mode probelm, but hopfuly will stop it from opening the tray on resume.

Did you do what Brink suggested with the network adapter to solve the sleep issue so you don't have to disconnect the cable every time?

Are both issues solved?

1. is the tray staying closed on resume?
2. will it stay a sleep with cable attached?

I don'T think that putting my PC to sleep for 3 minutes will show if the problem is solved or not, I'll put it to sleep all night

A very easy way to check the firmware on any CD/DVD device is to install img burn and then go to Tools>Drive>Check Firmware Updates

img burn is awesome, plus is supplies the make and model the the website: Firmware HQ
or if you know the model number, you can manually check there.

PS, if Tools>Drive is dithered, select an action first (Like write image file to disk) then it should appear.
