Most of CDs and DVDs are working fine, but there are some which my DVD RW doesn't recognize. When I insert them, it doesn't react at all or it says that CD/DVD is blank. These CDs and DVDs are working without any problems on my old computer with Windows XP and also on my brother's laptop with Windows XP.
Is there anything I could do about this issue?
Thank you.

It could be related to the region setting.

In Windows Explorer, right click on the DVD drive letter & choose >Properties, >Hardware tab, then click once on your DVD drive, >Properties (again!), >DVD Region. Make sure the Region setting matches your Region (1 is for the US), and click OK.

That might solve your problem.

Unfortunately, it didn't help, but thank you anyway.

Hardly any details of your optical drive. Make, Model, OEM/Retail, how long in use, whether its inability to read some CD-RWs and DVD-RWs is of recent origin, whether it was able to read these specific RWs earlier etc.,

In the circumstances only a general prescription, encompassing all aspects can be given. Either one of these may apply in your case. :)

1. Clean the lense.

2. Try a different known to be good branded media. Some drives can be choosy.

3. Check to see whether any recent firmware update is available and if so update.

4. If none of this resolves the issue, the laser in your ODD may have become weak. So may be your drive needs to be replaced.
