DVD tray keeps opening and closing

Hello,
Sometimes when I come out of standby, my Pioneer 109 will keep opening and closing on its own, the only solution I found was to shut down the computer, wait 10 seconds, and then restart it, if I don't wait 10 seconds, the problem stays. When I put a DVD in the drive, while it's open, it will close and then start spinning but it is not actually reading it, and if I go to My Computer it doesn't see the DVD in the DVD drive. I ran a full virus scan and I did not find anything. I know that my DVD drive is an old one, it has like 5 years, and is IDE. I just hope that it is not my motherboard!

Try updating your drive firmware. See if this page helps. Its old, though.

1) Look in the event log for ATAPI errors or anything that appears to be related. Type "eventvwr" without quotes in the Start button Search box, then hit enter.

2) Also, run a sfc scan, that'll fix some system corruptions.

3) Try updating your bios.

4) As a last resort, use Hibernate or hybrid sleep instead of sleep and see if that helps.

1) eventvwr gets me 2 errors in the past 24 hours, 1 is related to spybot search and destroy, and the other about a DWORD in the registry, but I can't tell which program.
2) I'm now doing part 2

I've read about some trojans that do this as a side joke to drive the pwn home, unfortunately I can't recall the exact source for the life of me (mrizos? Krebs? threatpost? Microsoft Malware Encyclopedia?) A Google search didn't jog my memory, but if I were you I would look in the caused by malware direction.

step 2 didn't find anything wrong, I don't think that I have a virus or a trojan, and I checked kucing's link it's not the same problem that the guy

Please post a screenshot of your Task manager (after clicking show processes from all users) .

Because there are programs (so-called joke programs) that do precisely the thing you experience. Take a look.

If we don't find it, and it is a hidden trojan/rootkit or something completely different, you should consider reinstalling Windows.

PS. Another question. Do you perhaps share your computer with a sister/brother/best friend/roommate/parent?

If you can remove the bezel on the drive and the issue goes away then I'd say there's a tight spot pushing on the tray assembly giving it the signal there's a jam and to open, if removing the bezel does not make it act correctly I'd look for either a joke virus or trojan.
