First i just wanted to make a DVD I tried using a couple of different dvd burning software like Aimersoft and Nero both always fail to completely burn my videos so i tried just putting the dvd into my computer and clicking the burn files to disc and then tried to make a dvd like a usb drive but it wont complete the format. It will however let me burn cds using Windows media player and itunes. Can someone please help!?

you need to encode them right,
try using windows dvd maker.

Sounds like your trying to make SVCD's .. and that's not what you want these days.

Has your DVD drive ever worked?
What does windows Device Manager say about the DVD and it's drivers.
Locate drivers yourself or ask windows to update the driver from within Device manager.

My DVD drive did used to work i used to burn all my files to Data discs but all of a sudden Windows kept saying it was unable to format the disc so i used nero 8 to make data discs and it says it was burned successfully but then i pop it back into my computer and there is just a blank disc. I went to my device manager and pdated all my drivers just now and then tried again and still not able to format.

i've had similar problems with my computer. For some reason, it worked when i connected the sataports of my ODD's to other one's. I'm no expert, so don't do this right away, and hear what others say about this.

Try testing with another brand of Media to rule out your DVD Burner. I had this once using some Panasonic DVD RW Disks, it would say it was formatting but after it had finished it said it needed formatting  Also try using Imgburn to do the format!!

Failing that test the DVD burner on another PC!!

Good Luck ;)

It may have been just a bad batch of DVDs but I'd try your data DVDs on friend's DVD rewriters from time to time. DVD rewriters can wander out of alignment over time which may give you a problem later on.
