I just get a blank screen running my DVI output thru an adapter to HDMI on my HDTV. The DVI outup is working as it will display on a regular old CRT monitor. This same setup works with my FX5700LE AGP card just not on the Radeon 9600XT. I want to display a 720P video but the Athlon 2200 and FX5700 is not 100% smooth. Any ideas? Thanks!

Does the TV have another port (such as DVI) that you can use without an adapter? Can you try the adapter with another video card?

Try to eliminate where the problem isn't occurring, such as a bad cable or adapter.

Did you install the driver for the 9600XT or just using the default Windows driver? If just the default Windows driver might want to install this,

ATI Catalyst

which is likely to be the last driver for any card made before the HD 2xxx series, but works very well in Windows 7 for the cards it supports (have it working right now on a back up computer with an old 9800 Pro in it, and it had a 9600 XT in it before that and Aero and everything just worked).

Thanks guys! Cables, adapters all work...it's is something to do with the the output signal of the 9600 vs 5700 at a hardware level. I don't get ANY output even at Bios screen with the 9600 thru HDMI. Anyhow, I have 720p playing smooth now with the 5700 and Gom player which uses alot less cpu than VLC.

Do you have other HDMI cables to try? or another HDTV to try?
