Solved Easiest Way To Recover Files From A Hard Drive

Desktop died. Hard drive is good. I would like to recover some files. I have several external drives and four large flash drives. What is the easiest way to recover files ?

Easiest is to attach the drive to another computer by temporarily installing the drive and the copying the desired files off of it.

You could also use a USB/SATA adapter cable or even install the drive into an empty external drive case. Regardless, you'll need another computer to do the actual copying.

The old hard drive is a boot drive. Any problems putting it in another computer that also has a boot drive ?

No. Just connect it to another computer while that computer is running. It will change the drive letters on the partitions on the drive when you connect it. Then all you have to do is copy the data you want from the drive.

I've never had a problem with permissions when doing this.
