Easy transfer!! From OLD-HDD to NEW-SSD (Boot), HDD (User files) ???

WINDOWS EASY TRANSFER PROBLEM -Can anyone help???

I've just spent 12 hours using WINDOWS EASY TRANSFER to transfer all my files which were on a 2TB Hard Drive to an extrenal 2TG hard drive, which I would then use to transfer the files to the new computer. The total size of the files were c900GB. The majority of these files are video files - video editing being the main reason for the high spec new machine.

Both machines running Windows 7

My new system is:-

Sabertooth x79 2100 ROG motherboard
i7 3939k Processor
32GB RAM
1 x Intel 520 series 480GB SSD (Boot)
2 x Corsair Black 2TB HDD (1 for user files, 1 as a back up drive) Not RAID

I have installed all my programs on the new SSD and configered my user account (ROY) on the 1st 2TB HDD (there are no user accounts on the SSD).

After waiting overnight for all my files to be transferred to the external drive, I started Windows Easy Transfer on the New computer. I went to the advanced setting to select that the files should be transferred to the ROY account on the new computer which resulted in the message

"THERE ISN'T ENOUGH DISK SPACE AVAILABLE TO TRANSFER YOUR FILES AND SETTINGS" - Free up some disk space and try again.

Is there any 'workaround' to get Easy Transfer to send the user files to the ROY account on the D:/ Drive, and the Windows files to the SSD C:/ Drive?

If not - any suggestions regarding the best alternative to resolve the problem.

Obviously I can copy and paste all my User folders. However the various windows and other program files and other settings and links would be lost.

Any useful 'workarounds' or suggestions will be gratefully received. Or are there other transfer programs with the flexibilty I require.

For data files, I would not even use Easy Transfer. I'd just drag and drop or copy in some other manner.

Easy Transfer hasn't worked well for me--it's an unnecessary complication.

Are some of these files not personal data?

I agree that Easy Transfer adds a layer of complication and potential failure which is easily avoided by dragging and dropping.

In your case why couldn't you plug in the 2tb HD and link the User folders by rightclicking each to add to the related Library - Include a Folder - Windows 7 Forums. This has become the preferred method due to complications which also arise from moving User folders.

If the 2tb also contains your old OS you can shift the data into a new data partition on the 2tb HD first as you shrink the OS partition until you get it small enough to delete the OS partition in Disk Mgmt.

Or drag each User folder to external for storage, wipe the 2tb with Diskpart Clean Command to repartition in Disk Mgmt, drag User folders back on and link them to related Win7 library.

You can even sync the User folders on HD to External using SyncToys, or use Win7 Backup to Backup User and System Files

You have received sound suggestions as to how to accomplish your objectives without the use of Easy Transfer.
