Hello!

Been reading the forums for a while now, figured I should join up as well!

I'm trying to give a educational presentation on EFS and in the process of encrypting a folder I got a pop-up notification. I thought nothing of it and clicked "Never Back Up". Moments later, I realized just how foolish that was.

The question I have now, is how can I re-enable that pop-up? Now whenever I encrypt a file or folder that pop-up notification does not come up anymore. Just wondering if there is a way that I can get it back?

Feel free to mock me all you want:p, I know I did a really stupid thing, but now I want to know if I can make it right again.

Thanks in advance for the help folks!

Hello DGSephiro, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since you didn't backup the EFS certificate and key, it should give you that same pop-up the next time you encrypt another file or folder.

If not, then the tutorial below can help show you how to manually backup the EFS certificate and key anytime that you like.

Brink -

Thanks for the reply. I was already aware of how to manually backup my certificates. The issue is that I wanted that automatic bubble to come back so I could show students and those watching the presentation exactly what happens the first time you encrypt and then also show them how to perform manual backups.

I have also tried encrypting other files (after decrypting everything) to see if it would bring back the popup notification. Unfortunately it did not.

If I cannot get the auto pop-up back, then thats cool, I was just wondering if there was some setting or anything that may bring back that pop-up.

Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to get the pop-up back either. :(

I don't know if this will work. run sfc /scannow from an Elevated Command Prompt.

I'm willing to try anything once, so why not!

I ran the command, it found no major errors, but in the hope that it may have fixed something, I tired encrypting another file to see if the pop-up returned.

To my surprise it worked!!!!!

Thanks for the suggestion Britton! :D
