Solved eliminating space between icon and taskbar?

I put a shortcut to a program at the bottom of my desktop. Can I move the icon closer to the taskbar? there is too much space between the two. I drag it as far as I can and it just asks if I want to pin it to my taskbar.

I apologize in advance in case I misunderstood your question.

By default, Windows spaces icons evenly on an invisible grid. I haven't found a way to change the size of the grid. To place icons closer together or with more precision, turn off the grid. Right-click an empty area of the desktop, click View, and then click Align to Grid to clear the check mark. (Repeat these steps to turn the grid back on.) Now that the icons are not confined to a particular grid location you might be able to move the shortcut icon closer to the task bar. Unfortunately, this appears to be an all or nothing process. All icons will be affected when the grid is turned on or off.

I found out how to do it after a quick Google search.
Right click the desktop, click personalize, click window color, click advanced appearance settings, under the Item drop down, click Icon Spacing - vertical, change that number to increase/decrease spacing. I have mine set to 0, default was 43.

You can alao reduce the size of all the icons on your desktop by pressing and holding the CTRL, then using the scroll wheel on your naked rodent mouse.

Thanks, Lady Fitzgerald. I used that trick to get it even closer to the taskbar. Plus it made all the icons slightly smaller, which I like.

You're welcome. I personally dislike large icons because of the amount of screen real estate they waste so I shrunk mine way down as well as shrunk the grid.

Larger icons aren't a problem as I have ample desktop space. Smaller ones just look better.
