Things that i have managed to get right:
1: creating a virtual drive
2: Installing an operating system on the virtual box
3: Figuring out what the terminal is and how to use it... [just like windows CMD, a tad different]
4: Installing Guest Additions
5: Changing the resolution to a max of 1272x920
6: Creating folders in the /mnt directory using the terminal....
Yes then they are correctly installed... but on a side note the mouse integration worked right from the start.

the easy way for you to tell me you have is if your mouse will move from win7 to the linux window without you having to use the right control key to take control of the mouse, or if you can go full screen properly without ur linux window being small and being surrounded by a black border.
