Did you previously have a GPT disk installed with EFI Boot disk, as it creates an extra 100mb EFI partition during install?

Then if you reinstalled as MBR disk and didn't wipe the HD it may have kept the EFI disk structure in place. Unfortunately since the Disk Mgmt window is not maximized I can't see if there is content remaining on D. Can you post a list of it's contents after unhiding Hidden and System files in Control Panel>Folder Options>View.

What I would do is reinstall after wiping the HD, following these steps which are the same for retail to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

You may see performance improvement since the old EFI disk structure may be causing conflicts.

Well I did two secure erases with Parted Magic last night in a row to make sure that the SSD was wiped.

I did however follow Wolfgang's diskpart to make that 1024 partition and I am now guessing that Windows has made another on top of it?

Sorry Greg to be such a pain but I was sure when I checked in diskpart before I reinstalled there was only the 100MB and the 119MB on that drive.

Perhaps first I'd delete D in Disk Mgmt and leave it for awhile to see what happens. There's no reason to keep a ruined RAW partition, and it's too small to bother recovering unless you reinstall.

Ok thanks Greg and thanks for putting up with me - at the moment I couldn't face another install my friend as my OEM doesn't have SP1 on it plus the eternal updates and security stuff.

I'll try the disk management as you said but I have never done it that way and might have to revert to the Mini Tool Partition Wizard which I have used in he past

Hiyya Greg Seems to up and running ok and the 100MB unallocated if that is all it is going to stay is neither here not there as in available space.

Machines belting along now at 24secs to password 3secs to desktop.
