Entering PW on login yielded black screen.

I locked my user account (WIN+L) and i left for a few minutes. When i came back i entered my password, pressed enter, a black screen appeared, and brought me back to the logon screen. I am just wondering why this happened and if anything is wrong with my computer?

If you could log back in and the computer works as it should I thinking you don't have a problem.

You might of had Sleep or Hibernation set and it went into one of them which made you log back in.

Concur that sounds exactly like hibernation, if you want rid of it, assuming your account on the PC has admin privileges, open a command prompt box (click START button then type CMD and hit enter in search box) and use this command:

powercfg.exe -h off [change to on to add it back]

Hibernation puts PC into a lower power consumption state until used again, but not off.

Actually Sleep keeps power to the RAM to save your work, then Hibernate writes RAM to the hard drive so it can fully power off the PC. But it starts up a lot faster (Resume) so many like me prefer Hibernate to Shut Down, and set the timing so we can walk away for 30 minutes before sleep and then after 60 minutes if we've not come back it Hibernates.

To suggest randomly turning off Hibernate might leave Sleep as the only timeout option which conceivably could leave power to the RAM for a week, month, year or longer if someone goes away that long leaving it to Sleep with no Hibernate. This is why Hibernate is set at 360 default, as a fail safe to save the life of RAM in the worst case.
