I am trying to install W7 on my eMachines T6412 with no luck. Both the BIOS and W7 installer recognize the SATA hdd. When selecting the drive user is prompted with "Windows is unable to install to the selected location. Error: 0x80300001". Altho, I am able to format the drive using the installer tool. I have been doing some googleing and it appears that I may need some SATA drivers. Would this be fore the HDD or for the SATA controller on the mobo? I can't seem to find drivers for either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

jFlat

Hello jFlat, welcome to Seven Forums!

If there's nothing at all on the HDD you need to save, have a go at Method One in this guide at the link below to overwrite the old MBR then start the clean install and be sure to post back with how it goes.

Thanks but no cigar... This is what I have done so far:

I updated my install disk to SP1 hoping that maybe that the driver I need would be in that.

I gave Method One a go with no luck. So than I gave Method Two a go... still no dice...

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is mussing. If you have a floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive please insert it now"

I am no longer even getting to a point where I can select a drive to format or anything. This dialog pops up on-top of where I would be able to select a drive. Not sure if this is because I upgraded to SP1 or because of the formatting. Either way this is where I am at.

Thank you,

jFlat

Update:

Ok well kind of embarrassing but I slept on the issue and re-looked at my situation with a fresh mind. I decided to swap out the SATA cable to another slot on the mobo... and now it works. The install just finished and now I'm running updates. I feel really silly that all I needed to do was plug the SATA cable into another slot.

Thank you for your help Bare Foot Kid!
