Error 80070002 while installing .NET Framework 3.5.1 update kb2943357

Hello,

I have kept having this issue for a couple of months now, tried several things without finding any good response. Windows Update try to install this .NET update for windows 7 every time I turn off the computer.

Error code : 80070002
Update : KB2943357

There's no errors in your posted logs.
The 80070002 error is a 'file not found' one - please post your C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file and I'll see if it gives me any clues.

The first error in each sequence shows that something in failing in the read of the downloaded files.
Let's try installing from the standalone...

I downloaded the x64 file and try to install but it failed

I reset Windows Update History and Re-register Windows Update Components but the update still fail to install, the error code is the same as before ...

Hmmm - let's try a different approach, then...

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

The system is having problems opening the HOSTS file, which regulates some of the access to networks.

Please open an Elevated Command Prompt and run the following commands...

ATTRIB -R -N -S -H
REN C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts hosts.old
Echo "# Temporary Hosts File - NDP" >>C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

close the window and reboot - see what happens.

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

It seems the -N option in the 1st command is not detected ( something like "invalid commutator" or "invalid switch")
The 2nd command goes well, but it looks like the 3rd one does nothing (no error but no message)

I restarted but the error is still there

Nah - it's the Application and System event logs I need please (although what you've shown already shows that it worked, I need to see the effect on the event system reports)

That's cleared the System log markedly

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have done much for the Application log.

There appears to be a major problem with the NvStream service - but I don't think it's relevant here.

Please upload the following logs, if you can find them...

C:\Windows\servicing\Sessions\Sessions.xml
C:\Windows\winsxs\poqexec.log
C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log

This update (KB2943357) appears to have been consistently failing with the same error since August 2014, when it was released.
I'm getting no real help from the new files

I really don't think there's a lot more that I can do, except point you in the direction of a repair install - http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R

So it took me a while but I downloaded the Windows 7 Home Premium sp1 64 bits (x19 59009) from this link, I unzipped it and launched the setup.exe. Everything went fine untill it reboots for the 1st time : an error occured :

Then the computer restart again with a message indicating it was impossible to install this release of Windows.

Any idea why?
