Hello,

This is a Win7-64bit SP1 fully patched, except for IE11 not yet installed.

I have tried the standalone 64-bit installer (IE11-Windows6.1-x64-en-us) to no avail.

I would love to upload the entire CBS folder but it creates a ZIP larger than the allowed 8M. Therefore, I am including only the CheckSUR.log file.

Thanks!

I'll post a fix protocol when I can.

I've uploaded a file - pbcaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder pbcaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it (Manifests)

Copy the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Good - CheckSUR is now error-free :)
Before attempting to install IE11 again, please run SFC /SCANNOW, and post the CBS.log file so we can see the state of the rest of the system

No errors were detected -- "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

However ---- At 3.6M, the file exceeds the max 2M size for uploading.

Any idea?

The max is actually 8MB - so it should upload OK (make sure you compress it first!)

Right! I was trying to upload the log without zipping. Sorry about that.

SFC is clear as well - and the only background errors date from before the CheckSUR repairs.
With luck, IE should install now.

Luck? No luck here, you were awesome!

Thank you a hundred times! Not only did it install well, but also KB2925418 and KB2909210 after that, using Windows Update. Thanks again!

As a side-note --- Why can't Microsoft get his Update Engine to check for missing or corrupted files before proceeding? Why must we still do all this manual intervention crap? Sigh.

Not easy to create an automated fix for something so complex as the WU system. MS is getting better at it, but has a way to go yet.

Glad you're all sorted :)

Fixed Dell laptop too! Error 9C48

Noel - Thanks!
Although the "unrepairable" files from this CheckSUR log were different from the OP, your method solved the problem updating to IE11. :D
My customer's Dell Inspiron 15R N5110 was overwhelmed with malware. MalwareBytes found over 1000 pieces of various "potentially unwanted programs" (PUP) and they slowed that i5 to a crawl along with the unending ad popups.
After cleaning, your advice with CheckSUR showed that one of the "mum" files was corrupted. The Dell would always fail the IE11 install with an Error 9C48.
TWO DAYS of research and attempts was leading to a recommendation of the dreaded "Windows Repair Install". Luckily, I found this thread.
Following your procedure and detailed directions from here:
Advanced guidelines for diagnosing and fixing servicing corruption
I was able to get the two files needed (mum & cab) from my laptop and transfer them to the proper CheckSUR folder on the Dell.
Ran CheckSUR again and this time it was fixed. Showing no more errors.
Rebooted and IE11 installed normally. Hooray!!!
Thanks again!
Richard
