Error code = 0x490 due to power cut, now Windows completely missing!

Jumanji, I have encrypted the whole system and truecrypt would load pre-boot authentication asking for a password before Windows started loading. System Encryption - TrueCrypt Documentation

As for partitions, I have created 97.6 GB partition for Windows and 833 GB partition for everything else. During windows installation the system created 100 MB partition by itself.

I have then used Truecrypt to encrypt entire system.

833 GB partition was, for sure, NTFS. For 97.6 GB partition, I cannot be 100% sure, but, unless Windows required it to be FAT32, I would have certainly designated it as NTFS. 100 MB partition Windows created by itself and I can't remember.

To answer your questions as accurately as possible, would it be helpful to recreate the process of encryption with Truecrypt on a Lenovo S10-2 netbook I have laying around, following as much as I can remember, the steps I used for encrypting the computer five years ago?

We could then use this netbook for trying different solutions without risking main computer.

My plan is to format Lenovo netbook (297 GB), create one 97 GB partition and one 200 GB partition, install Windows 7 32-bit on smaller partition, which should create also the 100 MB partition. Then encrypt whole system with Truecrypt and post photos of it so you guys can see the process in detail.

Tell me what you think.

Jumanji, before Truecrypt started encrypting the netbook it opened this Information in case of damage to boot-loader or damage to OS.

I'm posting highlighted info regarding damaged Windows, full document in the attachment.

As I said, I am not knowledgeable enough to say much on TrueCrypt. Happy to note that you are trying to help yourself as much as possible. That is the best way when nothing much of it comes from others.

If you want to try the highlighted method in your last post, you can create a WinPE CD/pendrive using AOMEI PE Builder 1.5 Free Create Bootable USB or CD/DVD based on Windows PE with AOMEI PE Builder

jumanji, I made bootable dvd per instructions on the link and 'Starting Windows' screen appears, however after it this error shows.

Is there perhaps another program I could use?

I am not sure whether your encrypted HDD is responsible for the WinPE not booting into Windows.

Try your WinPE optical media on another working PC and check whether it boots into Windows and you are able to access the HDD of that PC and its contents. If not your WinPE creation is defective.

Quite sometime back, I had created a WinPE ISO using AOMEI PE Builder adding two tools HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool and Bootice and then had created a bootable pendrive with that ISO using RUFUS.Everything worked fine. I still have the ISO and can create a bootable pendrive anytime I need it.

In case your WinPE disc is defective, I may advise that you create an ISO (instead of burning directly to an optical media), create a bootable pendrive with Rufus and try.

I have no other suggestion/s.
