For several weeks, every day the computer tries to download the update:
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2894844)
I also get a message reading that Avast has been disabled, but my Avast icon/program indicates that it is still active.
I downloaded and ran .NET Framework repair tool from Microsoft, but it did not correct the issue. I've googled the topic and see that others are experiencing similar issues. I ran combofix several weeks ago, but it did not correct the problem either.
Can you help me with this, please? Thank you.

My error code is 800736B3 "Windows update encountered an unknown error".
I have attached (I think... do I need to "insert" them into the message?) two files from the CBS log file that were created today, because together it exceeds maximum size. There is also a checkSUR file dated 08/21/14. I apologize, but I am unclear if my original thread was removed, or if this additional information keeps it active. Thanks.

Oh for goodness sakes, I see from the instructions that I need to run a current SUR. Earlier, the page wouldn't load, but it now. Please hold while I perform this action and attach the results. I am so sorry for the delay. I am new to the forum and don't see how to delete the previous post. ~sigh~ Bear with me, please.

I downloaded "System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB947821) [October 2014]". The file began installing, but seems to be stalled. The progress bar is about half way through, the green bar still indicates movement, but it has been in this position for over 20 minutes.
Is it possible that the SUR report from August will suffice?

Well. I think my head might explode right off my neck. While loading the above file, my computer lost power. I restarted it, started it again and got the following error.

Am I a lost cause? Thank you to anyone who will kindly take my case.

After taking a break, I again worked on this. I was able to download the file and run the scan. Because I have bounced all over the place with my messages, I am closing this one, and if I still have an issue, I will open a new thread. I apologize for any annoyance or inconvenience. I'm new to the forum and not exactly clear on the protocol. Thanks.
