I have Windows 7 home premium 64bit with 6gb of ram. I was asking windows update to install KB4483187 and KB4471318. KB4483187 installed without difficulty, but KB4471318 would not install and windows update gave error 0x8024200d as the reason for the failure. I came to your website and looked up why I would be getting an error on the update install, and followed some instructions from another thread, which indicated downloading and manually installing the update. I tried that, but every time I ask the windows update program to install KB4471318, it tells me it cannot find the file. I even renamed the file with a shorter file name and it still cannot find the file, even though I right clicked on the file and asked windows to open it. The windows update installer opens a window and it looks like it is installing the update, but the end result is that the install always fails. I have also run sfc /scannow from a command line window running as admin, and it shows no issues or problems. And I installed the KB947821 hotfix to fix any windows update install issues. I just tried installing KB4471318 again, after the hotfix install, but it just will not install. I was going to attach the CBS log file as a zip file to help with the error diagnosis, but my zip file is almost 48mb in size, so I don't know how to attach it so you can use it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I will try to update the SSU first, and then I can try installing KB4471318 again. Is that what you are suggesting? If that doesn't work, I can try to use WSUS offline update from the link provided. I can also split the CBS.log file into smaller files, which will take some work. I downloaded and installed EditpadLite, which can handle very large text files easier than Word. When I opened the log file with that editor and removed any logs before 1-2-19, the log file only lost about 1mb of size, so I will have to break it up if you still want to look at it.

I saw that Editpad last night but I didn't download it. My system is loaded with software like that which I downloaded in the interest of helping people.

Give the two options already mentioned a go. I suspect one or the other will resolve it.

I tried installing KB3177467 and then installing KB4471318, but that did not work. The WSUS offline install option looks interesting, but I only want to install one update, KB4471318, and it does not look like WSUS offline install will only do one upate. It looks like what is left is the CBS log file, or at least a portion of it. It will take some time and a little programming in a Word macro, but I can send someone a portion of the CBS log file, or multiple portions of it, for analysis.

As I understand it, WSUS will include all the updates for your OS and then check against those that are installed. It has worked nicely for other people.

I opened your log in editpadlite. I'm no expert but I searched for errors and couldn't find one (such as an 0x00........ type). The extracted log is roughly 40 MB smaller than the download and the end of it is missing so I can't say what the finally result of the process was.

Additional information:

In Editpadlite, I deleted about half of the beginning part of the log file. After doing so, it showed me the end of the file. I'll repeat it here-

Looking at the 0x00f0816 error, this is the closest I can come to a solution for that error (It's for Win 10 but it should also work in Win 7.)-

Windows 10 0x800f0816 - Windows Live Support Chat

It's just a bunch of cleanup. Personally, I would try WSUS first.

I was hoping that someone like NoelP would jump on this one.

I looked at the beginning of the log file, and found the following errors:

There may be more errors in the log, but you get the point. At any rate, I am trying the WSUS now, and will let you know if it works.

The WSUS update approach did not help. The next thing I plan to try is updating after a clean boot, disabling all but microsoft startup software. If that doesn't work, I will try resetting the windows update completely, which will clean out my update history. We will see what works.

I tried a clean boot, then resetting the windows update components, but so far nothing has fixed the problem of this update not installing. I plan to upgrade to windows 10 soon anyway, so it may not really matter anymore.

When you ran the clean boot, did you also disable all the Startup items, in addition to the Services (except for Microsoft)?

I don't know what you did, specifically, in regards to the Updates.

Yes, I disabled both services and startup items, except for microsoft stuff. I had already downloaded the update for KB4471318, so I tried to install it again after the clean boot and it failed to install. Now I have run the windows update troubleshooter again and asked it to produced a data file and some log files, which I was going to look at.
