Hi all :o,

I've read through this and other forums as well as google search to help me with this error code. I've unsuccessfully installed SP1 for many months and have tried a registry cleaner, downloading the update manually and trying the update from disc. I have yet to successfully upgrade to SP1. I noticed that there are certain logs to look through, but I'm not sure if I'm attaching the correct log. I apologize in advance for being noob!

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64x. Any help is greatly appreciated

Hello, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

Firstly, a big well done, and thank you. You have run all the correct programs, and have attached exactly the correct log. :)

I shall get the fix to you as soon as possible. This may be later this evening, or tomorrow evening.

Please do not follow any other advice until then, and I shall be back as soon as possible.

Have a great day, and thanks a lot!

Richard

Thanks for the link, I actually tried the system readiness tool and uploaded my log from that. I noticed that the "fix it" tool isn't available for Windows 7 too.

CheckSUR is, in effect a Fixit tool.

Looking at your log, there are two corrupted updates - KB976932 and KB976933.

I suggest trying to uninstall them both first - then reinstalling SP1 from a manual download.

Download Details - Microsoft Download Center - Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

Asssuming that goes OK (after a couple of reboots and some testing), then use WIndows Updates to further update the system.

Hello!

@RLwells: I have finally got my 64bit laptop to work. Fix coming this evening.

@NoelDP: As said by the OP, your link was only repeating what the OP had already done. There is no point in asking for it to be repeated unless there is evidence that it will help.

Also, KB976933 is built into KB976932, and once again, I have already said that this fix is NOT a good idea. At this point, we have SP1 with a few easy to fix missing files. If we fix these missing files, we can re-run the SP1 installer via Windows Update, the remainder of the installer will complete, and all will be well.

The uninstall will fail (except in maybe some rare circumstance I do not know about). Since SP1 is only half installed, the uninstall cannot go correctly. It is likely that it will leave SP1 in an unknown half installed state, whereas it is currently in a known half installed state.

These fixes have been developed by the Microsoft MVPs and tech experts in co-ordination with the Microsoft Windows Update Product Group. They are the correct fixes. What you are currently giving is dangerous, and I have already talked to you about it before. *Please will you stop giving this bad advice, or send me a PM and we/I can teach you the correct techniques.

Richard

It's a little difficult to PM when the forum system disallows it for some reason  - but I'm always willing (and eager in the case of CheckSUR logs) to learn.
