Hi,

I got a problem when installing Internet Explorer 10 using windows update on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

I already tried to find the missing files in the CheckSUR.log:

I looked for them in the IE10-Windows6.1-x64-nl-nl.exe file, but can't find them.

Also quite odd is that the windows-update file is about 71,6 MB and the IE10-Windows6.1-x64-nl-nl.exe is only 45 MB in size.

I've attached the CBS files to the post.

Hope you can help me.

Greetings,

Don.

The CheckSUR file 'errors' are perfectly normal for a Windows 7 IE10 install.
The differences in the file size are simply due to the fact that the nl-nl installer doesn't contain all the possible language variant, while the larger one does.

What interesting is that you are still attempting to install IE at all, since it appears to be already installed.

Please run SFC /SCANNOW, and post the resulting CBS.log file.

The SFC scan is clear - and there are no obvious errors in the background of that log.

One thing which I didn't look at before is the CheckSUR persist log.

in one of the runs (early morning Saturday), you had a large number of errors, which disappeared later that day before a re-run in the evening

I'm not quite sure what to make of that!

what did you run/do that corrected those errors?

I think that I was reinstalling Internet Explorer 9... I had removed it to test if I could install IE 10.

After that I still got the same error, code 9C59 if I wanted to install IE 10 and IE 9. Then I read about stopping the windows update service, renaming the SoftwareDistribution folder and starting it again. Waiting 15 minutes and then reboot and wait another 10 minutes after that. Now IE 9 would install, but IE 10 still gave code 9C59.

That could certainly do something of that kind - and it may give me some pointers as to where to look.

Shouting to Noel!

Hi Noel, have been busy with some other stuff, so didn't had the time to reply.

Did you find a solution for my problem?

Sorry about that - I got side-tracked (not uncommon!)

Perhaps a look at the full CBS history would help... and the WindowsUpdate.log
please copy the entire CBS folder to your desktop, then copy the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file into the copy, and compress the folder, and upload it to a reply - if it's too big (over 8MB) then spilt it into smaller chunks, and post them separately, or upload to a fileshare site such as SkyDrive or DropBox, and post a link.

Somehow my original CBS log files where deleted by me after the first post. So I don't have those anymore. I do have the Windowsupdate.log. Will attach it here.

That's OK - please copy the entire current C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your desktop, and zip it - then upload the zip file to a reply.

Hi Noel,

I've not been at my parents house for a while, so it took me a while to write a reply to your post.

I've uploaded the complete contents of the CBS directory.

Hope you still are motivated to help me. :)

Don.

So we have an inability for Windows to actually read the hash value for the JScript component from the CAT file.

This *should* have been found by a CheckSUR scan - but there's no CheckSUR data in the latest files?

Please try running a new download of the CheckSUR tool - MS updated it recently, and I can't remember whether your last run was with the updated one or not.
post the new CheckSUR.log file when you can.

No errors there, so I'll have to try and fix it manually.
I'll work out a fix protocol later today - see you then.

Problem solved!

Hi Noel,

All my problems were solved when I upgraded to IE 11. Don't know if this is the solution for all people having problems to install IE 10. I've used WIndows 7 for about 3 or 4 weeks without any error in Windows Update.

Noel your help was great! Thank you very much! :)

Greetings,

Don

Sorry, Don - your thread seems to have slipped off my radar! :(
Glad you found a solution, though!

Good luck with it. :)
