Error installing KB973923

Good morning,

I get Error Code 643 when trying to install the Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package, here are the details from the failed attempt:

Error details: Code 643

I first tried using the Windows Install Cleanup Utility and reinstalling the redistributable and service pack manually but it didn't help. I then talked to the free support and they pointed me here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry for the thread necromancy but I recently had this problem and fixed the issue by having to amend permissions for the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\1FA18F7974E099CD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8

by making sure Creator/Owner inherited the permissions from Administrator.

Welcome to Seven Forums WastedJoker. While this was an old post, we appreciate you sharing your fix. Should anyone come here looking for a fix to a sililar problem, I would suggest starting with the following steps before resorting to changing registry permissions.

You receive error code 0x80070643 or error code 0x643 when you use the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates



If this doesn’t help, then try running patch registration cleanup tool

After this, reset Windows Update components from the link below or Run the fix it to automatically scan and fix the issue.
