I didn't see that. Most new systems use 64bits win7

Built my system from parts I can get from stores near me. It is hard to get an x64 processor here so I had to use an x86 processor instead.

Constant freeze here and taking forever to open a folder, but I think I might have recovered some more files.

Ok, I ripped the reseller warranty but still have the official Seagate warranty. If not covered by warranty (becos it is mostly my fault) what $600 HDD/SSD would you recommend.

Your fault??? did you smash it on the floor?

No recommendation... but a 1TB harddisk will cost about $100

Oops of ment $60, but I'll try to get a 1TB HDD, I cud get 1 for around $80-90. My fault becos I try to open HDD

Test your HD with Seatools extended CD scan after backing up your files.

If the HD has unfixable problems replace it and Clean Reinstall following the steps in blue link to get a perfect install. The steps are the same for retail.

Yes, best to test the HD from CD so it's not running at the time.

well, the live cd and tutorial didn't do much and the I/O error has gotten worse, so there goes thousands of photos. But hey, look on the bright side of life right, I was still able to recover some files. And thank you for helping me recover my files and helping me with my problem you deserve a lot of reputation!

Sorry it took me so long to reply.
I ran out if CDs to burn and as for unfixable errors, the I/O error and file lost is enough to prove that the HDD can't be fixed.

You could still have only a file system problem remedied by Disk Check.

The only way to know for sure is to run both that and the diagnostics CD scan.
