Error message in Office 2007

Running 7. When I double click on a .doc saved to my desktop, I get the error message "Problem sending the command to the program". The doc doesn't open. The 2nd time I click it, it always does with no problem. I've been searching the 'net for info on how to correct this. Read somewhere to rename the Normal.doc file, which I've done a couple times now. Still getting the message. Uninstalled and reinstalled Office. And repaired. Any thoughts appreciated. Lynn

Hi Lynn and welcome

That usually happens when the file opening takes too long and times out. It explains why it will usually open on the second attempt.

Does this only happen with DOC files, or does it happen with others?

Thanks in advance

Jan

Lynn

Do you have Zone Alarm installed? There is a known problem between office and zone alarm in this area.

There is a reported fix if you do.

Hello !!

When you go to Start | All Programs | Microsoft Office | Right Click on Word and go to Properties and under compatibility Tab make sure Run as administrator is unchecked. Also make sure other check box for compatibility mode is unchecked. If that didn't fix try this Microsoft article
How to troubleshoot problems that occur when you start or use Word 2010, Word 2007, Word 2003, or Word 2002

Hope this helps,
Captain

Hi Captain! I'd checked this a few days ago...but just double checked. Run as admin is not checked. Run ion comp mode is not checked. I'll go read the article right now. Thanks! Lynn
